Apparently, Windham is making a limited run of C7 uppers. But you have to call them directly, as it is not listed on their site.

I picked one up a week or so ago. Nice piece.

Does this thing belong here?

C7 upper, WW 11.5 Barrel, High Standard F1 Lower, No name CAR Stock, H2 buffer. Magpul MOE handguard with scout mount and TLR-1.

Besides my Glock 19 this is the HD armory, just ordered a Redi Mag to have 60 rounds on tap.

Now with Moar rounds on tap and a BAD Lever.

I guess my Israeli clone would fit in here too. The SUIT may look awkward, but it works pretty well. Cheek weld isn't an issue since you have that rubber eye cup hitting the same spot everytime. If I really needed it as a SHTF rifle I'd use a light in an Elzetta FSB mount.

any place to get new A1 uppers? cant seem to find them anywhere

Nodak Spud and Brownells both carry a1 uppers.
The Brownells upper is made by Nodak fyi, and i believe both places currently have them in-stock.

I guess the only "modern" to this one is I used a NoDak upper and lower.   I also used an A2 rear aperture and a NM front sight post.

What about any A1 style detachable carry handles?  I'd love for my KISS Middy to have a fixed rear sight and join this thread.

I've seen the typical A2 detachable carry handle but it doesn't have a clean look to it with those big knobs.

It's made by cncguns.com

I want to know if it's still available, but I haven't contacted them.
I recall that it's in the white, missing a1 sight assembly, and about $100, so that makes it less tempting.

Their site looks old and not updated....ever.

Thanks gents! I had always wanted an A1 type gun but being left handed I wanted/needed the shell deflector. Just recently found out these C7 type uppers exist and didn't hesitate! Gonna try her out this weekend.

New to the forum, I've been working on this rifle since summer 2015. Its finally done.

Upper: started as a Fulton Armory 16in slick side A1 carbine upper  1x8 twist chrome lined LW profile. I've added round hand guards, ( came with carbine triangle), and Just got it back from having moderator style flash hider pinned on.

Lower is Stag i put together myself.

Optic: Primary arms 2.5X ACSS

Trigger: Giessele SSA

Stock is Tonys Aluminum Car15, which I'm going to build up some JB weld on the inside so if fits my milspec buffer tube better.

I've fired it when it still had the 16in barrel and no optic, can't wait to test the new setup and see if I need to drill my gas port or not.

Also need to figure out what do do for a sling.

Anyway just thought i'd share.

That thing is sick! Only thing that would make it better would be a short K style suppressor instead of the compensator

The more I look at it, the more I like it. Nice!

I'm thinking about grabbing a set of MOE furniture for my A1/C7 for field use; the Colt fiberglass stuff is forty-some years old and kind of fragile. Your rifle isn't helping with that urge...

Not modern, but my NDS-601 receiver that I ordered back in August came in. I put the SP1 parts minus receiver that I bought on the EE about ten years ago on it.

Makes a good companion for my semi M16A1 clone.

Put this together today....

My A4-ish Modern A1 build:

Centurion C4 12" rail
Brownells 20" 1/12 A1-type blemish barrel
A1 flash hider
Slickside upper
Chrome bolt carrier (no fwd assist serrations)
A1 stock w/ A2 buttplate
A1 grip
Range Tool lower w/ PSA LPK

(Ejection port cover spring flipped under while putting on the handguard)

Was gonna buy an ACOG at the end of the month but the water heater went out yesterday.

With optic - Burris AR-332 w/ pic rails removed and screw holes filled w/ JB Weld and a GDI R-Com E-model mount.

Huh, I would've sworn I posted a photo in here. Here goes...

-Del-Ton 20" pencil barrel
-Del-Ton buffer tube assembly, BCG, and LPK
-Anchor Harvey C7 upper
-Colt A1 grip
-MOE Rifle furniture

This is an amazingly light and handy rifle, with great sight radius, and has accompanied me on quite a few hikes and adventures.

While it doesn't technically have an A1 upper receiver, it does have the following A1 parts:

A1 barrel
A1 flash hider
A1 stock
A1 pistol grip

Also, the lack of a cartridge deflector is A1-inspired and the lack of forward assist reflects pre-A1 designs. Same with an original Colt chrome bolt carrier without forward assist serrations.

And before I posted, I read:

Important points:

- "non-military clone A1"
- "modern"

Most would consider "modern" to include optics and features such as free-float handguards/rails.  And "non-military clones" would exclude builds that by their nature are clone-ish, such as many builds in this thread.

You've called out my gun in this thread as "not an A1" yet you've not done the same to others who've posted 604 upper builds (not an A1 or C7) and especially many who have no "modern" features such as optics, rails & lights.

Not trying to stir the pot, but I believe an upper with an A1 carry handle/sights is the criteria most people are looking for in this thread. I'd argue that the upper receiver is the most defining piece on these builds.

C7 & 604 uppers aren't technically A1 yet tons of people have posted these.

The OP doesn't specify any criteria other than "non-military clone A1."  This is my interpretation using many A1 parts and what a "modern" A1 is.
