At 1.1x you'll definitely see the FSP... past that it won't be an issue.

Think I've finally got it where I want it. The Elcan is sweet to look through, and I can't believe I've waited this long to get a 500 lumen weapon light. Now all I need is that Surefire SOCOM 7.62 mini can and I'm in business. (plus I could use it on my Ruger Gunsite Scout for hunting)

I went with the LT104.  The CQBSS has enough internal adjustment that you really shouldn't need the extra 10 minutes built into the LT158.

ETA:  If you're worried about BUIS clearance, your BUIS will fit under either of those mounts without issue.

I have mine mounted in a  LT139 and prefer it for proper eye relief with my desired stock adjustment. The CQBSS is a long scope and has generous eye relief, I think the 139 is the way to go, the 104 may work for you but as you can sees from my pic the 139 puts the eye piece right to the edge of the upper receiver, same positioning as the one below it

another option would be the "clone correct" backwards Leopold mount.

Is that a LT139 (SPR-E, 3 inches) or LT104 (2 inches)?  I blew up the first picture below, and it looks like it has SPR-E on the side.

If you shoot NTCH, Leupold Mark 8 IMS Mounting System 110296 is the only mount I know that can get you the proper eye relief (3.7") without having the mount cross the rail and the upper receiver.  It is also clone correct.

Thanks, I don't need the "extra 10moa" but the LT158 places the centerline of the optic 1.44" above the top of the rail...

I was editing my post as you responded. I thought mine was a 104 E (extended 104) but the SPR-E actually has a different number LT139. and like I wrote above, think it's the way to go. I do not shoot NTCH (unless I'm shooting Irons, which I no longer do) and don't see why, other than habit, you would shoot a CQBSS equipped AR NTCH, but that's a different discussion.

I don't see why just because it is CQBSS, so you don't shoot NTCH.  It is a scope, so it has exit pupil and proper eye relief (eye box), even at 1.1x.  It is designed to be usable in close quarter work.   Hard to argue that you can always stay in the eye box when moving around and bumping into things and when sometimes your gun is propped by only one hand.

CQBSS has an exit pupil between 21mm (at 1.1x) to 3mm (at 8x).  If you think Elcan at 1x (32mm) is difficult to work with, then CQBSS is even more so.  NTCH give one more point of reference, in addition to just cheek weld.  The Leupold Mark 8 IMS Mounting System 110296 was designed specifically for CQBSS, and is part of issue kit, I believe, and it has a very long extension for a reason.

Shooting NTCH is NOT for everyone, of course.  If one is over 6', then shooting NTCH would probably be pretty awkward, due to long LOP.

If you have specific reasons why CQBSS should not be shot with NTCH, I would like to hear about them.

According to a related thread, this guy took the first place that day.  It was a M-TMR reticle.

This is a photo showing the Leupold MK8 IMS mount used with MK8 CQBSS.  This was 2012 in AFG.

Didn't realize there was a different optic "height" if you want to call it, to that mount.  Either way, is there a reason you feel you need the 1.44" centerline as opposed to the 1.5"?

I understand mounting an optic closer to the bore is preferable, but I'd imagine that small of a difference isn't going to be a big issue either way.

Unless of course I'm missing something else, which is entirely possible.

The biggest difference is the built-in 10 minutes.  Don't read into it.

My fde 553 su-231 peq marked  Eo is in, thanks to gaston! looks great.  I'm calling the Block II upper done w/ only a cdq for the rail and a good sling to find.

Still hunting down a m4a1 lower but, my Armalite lower will work for now under it. Hoping to get it out this weekend to get the buis dialed in and to see how it's going to run.

Don't know, came from this article. Article is says Special Forces, but there's no telling where the picture came from, or if the  author knows the difference between Army Special Forces and Marsoc.

How can you tell if it's an airsoft PEQ? I haven't paid enough attention to airsoft stuff (Or PEQ-16s, to be honest) to be able to tell the difference.

If you look at the full size photo, you can see if lens cover stub color is wrong.  The real PEQ-15/16 screw holes are filled epoxy.  I see PEQs on pretty much daily basis, the housing texture looks off.  But that was not what prompted me to want look into the details.  His fake Ops Core helmet just looks off and cheap.

How can you tell if it's an airsoft PEQ? I haven't paid enough attention to airsoft stuff (Or PEQ-16s, to be honest) to be able to tell the difference.

Makes sense. I've never handled a PEQ-16, so I'm not familiar with the intimate details.
The only thing that stood out as weird to me was him wearing a full color flag, while supposedly overseas.

Playing airsoft would be a lot cooler if people would treat it as a game. Seems like that' s what everyone wants to play instead of paintball, these days, though.

I could see kids wanting to dress up and play army, and I have to admit, the level some of them go to to be "correct" for a, say, 1969 LRRP unit in the A Shau Valley, or whatever....I could see how that's fun. If that's their bag, whatever. And I'm sure their learning a little history in the process. They're kids, no one expects that to not look silly in general.

When I see 35 year olds, though, spending as much on that bullshit that they could have damn near bought the real thing. I have one of these faces:

That photo ran with this article:

http://controversialtimes.com/news/breaking-us-special-forces-engage-isis-for-first-time-inflict-heavy-casualties/

Not to say it's legitimate, as news sources often buy stock photos.

You would be surprised what airsofters buy. They will pony up and buy actual AOR1 kit and pay through the nose for it so they can be king of the airsoft nerds.

I'm just making a copy of what I carried.  My career is winding down and I wanted to do something for myself.

We're building 5.56 versions of 5.56 rifles. Not 6mm BB versions of 5.56 rifles.

The point is...it's the obsession.    We cloners are just as detail Nazi's as are the airsofters.

My entry into the Block II world:

MRDS isn't clone correct, but I'm trying out the 45 degree offset, and it'll probably stay on until I can find an appropriate front BUIS

And my PR-ish upper that I have to go with it (minus the optic)
