Les Baer...you can get just as good or better quality for far far less than les baer or wilson combat.I would take a Colt,BCM or Spikes for a field rifle before les baer or wilson.

The infamous backwards-installed castle nut ad pretty much told me everything I needed to know about Les Baer.  They may indeed be great guns for shooting small rodents from a benchrest, perhaps, but better fighting guns are available for much less.

As an example, MPI does nothing more than say that the product being MPI'd does not have any detectable defects at the time the item was MPI'd. It does not tell you if the item was correctly heat treated or is of the specified material content.
Sure, but what should one make of a manufacturer who doesn't even bother to MPI?

Les Baer is nothing even close to a top producer when talking AR15s.  Accuracy may be the only think it surpasses Colt in.

To be fair, even though your pic is an extreme example, I have seen very uneven ears on surplus uppers.  My FN M16A2 barrel has pretty uneven ears––enough to bother my weird obsession with symmetry anytime I use it.

Grind the other side down to match.

I like LMT, but I've had some very inconsistent quality from them.  I still have a bolt carrier that will not accept a bolt.  The hole for the tail of the bolt is too small.

Did you call them? They are very nice people and I am sure they would exchange that carrier for no charge.

Thought about it.  It's a DMR-ish project that I never seem to have the money to finish.

Typically milspec is short hand for the following.

4150 barrel steel

proof firing

MP testing

1/7 twist

chrome lining.

The testing will catch metallurgical flaws that could cause problems down the road, which are not seen by visual inspection.

The 1/7 twist allows you to use heavy match bullets and heavy self defense ammo.

Supposedly this grade of steel is stronger than the other common grade of steel for barrels.

Typically, "civilian spec" has always had 1/9 twist barrels, not MP tested, and sometimes not chrome lined. The collapsing stocks also have a different diameter buffer tube. Once upon a time, the only "mil spec" AR15's were Colt. Now we have lots of manufactures, like Colt, Bravo, LMT, Spikes, etc.

This is why some will call a mid-length mil spec. It meets no military specs, but it has the same quality characteristics and twist rate that a military carbine would have.
