Looking to take the mk12 out for some ground hog shooting next month, anyone shooting the lighter 40-50gr tipped varmint bullets with a 18" 1-8tw (1-7.7). Any problems with jackets separating, what kind of accuracy should I expect.
I handload for 300 yards+, exclusively 69-77gr smk, tmk, hpbt, amax. Just never tried the lighter weights. Any help much appreciated.

I have a question for the experts here.  There is a pre ban rifle for sale here in Mass ( only pre bans can be purchased now) that has an A1 upper and  a SP1 lower. Would this set up be worth pursuing , or would a SP1 lower be completely incorrect for a MK12?

If you want the correct a1 profile for the mk12.... as far as pre Ban receivers go look out for pwa commando's, sendra's, and Olympic's. The sp1 is profiled right in the rear but it's a slab side which is very noticeable. Then if it's a large pin you have to use a large pin upper or open up the pivot hole on a normal M4 upper. I'm in CT and in the same boat so I've been looking into this for a while.

I wouldn't say way off....I'm using an a2 profile lower until I can figure out if I really want to dump 1k on a lower that is the correct profile. I would say it's about the same as me using an a2. You have the correct profile around the receiver extension but have a slab on one side of the magwell....I have the right magwell but the wrong profile by the receiver extension. Unfortunately when you are limited to pre bans it's kinda a use what you got scenario unless you have the money and patience to look for one of the ones I listed before. I don't really think anyone will give you a hard time under the circumstances. It's a miracle we're still building behind enemy lines..:

Leupold stopped selling them on the civilian market.  Most of the vendors are out of them now but they're out there on the used market so it's not hard to get one.  I've seen three for sale here in the EE in the last several weeks.  Is it worth it for a clone?  It depends on if you want a "clone" or not.

RubiconJK, to be honest I need to do this myself, I have an untapped source of lighter 22 caliber varmint bullets and I've simply never gotten around to taking the time to try them out in my 1/7 or 1/7.7. Every year I do a little p-dog shooting in Montana while I'm there for some rifle matches, I just shoot the 77's that I have loaded and call it good. Another project I guess I need to take on.

Ed_Mag, I believe that's a very strong price for the 112633  model (TS-30 A2), There's very little difference visually between the 112633 and the 67925 which still seem to be plentiful. The 112633 has the index marks for mounting, battery cap lanyard, I'm not sure if both models have the locking eyepiece, I'm sure someone will know. The 67925 are significantly cheaper than $1500 I believe, plus a little spray paint and who would know.

The lightest I've shot is 55gr midway dogtown bullets, and they shot fair. By fair I mean .90 best, average 1.10" at 100y. With the heavy pills I usually get consistent groups around .65-.70" at 100. I'd like to try some of the 50gr zmax or varmageddon since they are a steal for 500 but idk if they would be suitable for 1-7.7tw or if it's just a waste of time.
With benchmark or cfe, velocity is well above 3200fps on the low end and factoring in twist rate put them up in the rpm range and I've seen lighter jacketed bullets destroyed upon exiting barrel at 29k rpms.
I do have a good supply, 1k+, of heavier rounds loaded, but I'd like to shoot the light rounds instead and save the 70-80gr for longer ranges. Plus I kinda like the idea of loading up 200 rounds of 50gr pills in the same time it takes to do 100 "LR" rounds. Time is money, as they say.

There has got to be someone here that shoots these on the regular out of a spr/mk12 that could lend some firsthand knowledge. Speak up, I'm all ears.

Definitely high. I'll say that if you're not opposed to spending that much on an optic you should probably look into the 2.5-10x24 NF. Sport Optics looks to still have the MIL variant for just over $1,800.

It's worked really well, it certainly does a nice job w/ camo and as an added benefit it keeps the can cool enough to the touch that I can always handle it bare handed. Since I never use my unpainted Mod 1 anymore I might still just paint the can, but for now this works great.

Congrats on the can stamp clearing.

I have no idea. I literally went in the junk drawer in the kitchen, found a roll of twine and used it.

I would think any old twine would do.

Great, I have some kitchen twine, so will try that.  I was worried about the heat but i guess if it works for cooking/ovens I shouldn't worry about it.  Even if it does burn it's a cheap/easy replacement :).

A few pics from the range today...  One thing that really stood out is how quiet it was at the shooters ear.  First time suppressor shooter, and I knew it wouldn't be "movie quiet" - I actually think I had lowered my expectations too much.  Behind the trigger all I hear is the action and the buffer spring...  pretty dang amazing.  With no earpro you do hear the crack, but with typical earplugs in it's very quiet.

So I "greened it up" some more, moving back to a more green/woodland theme I suppose over Sand/Brown.  Desert Sage Cerakote is still way to light, but since I'm going to cover it (twine wrap most likely) I'm not going to worry about it.  I could get it re-done in a darker green ie Foliage or similar but going to roll with it for now...

Held off on painting over the scope, wanted to be sure I like the outcome first :)  Probably just dust it with some Aervoe Forest Green TBH vs all the masking work.

My 1/7 recce shoots the Federal American Eagle 50 grain Varmint Tipped pretty well.  Does not look like they are coming apart at all.  I haven't shot them at 100 yet though.  I plan to.  Or wait, did I?  I'll go back and look at my pics.....

I'm also getting more mod 1 manuals so I'll contact the guys on that list soon. I have a list of 25-30 for mod 0/1 manuals but I'll get that going and collect for them soon. I just want them in my hands before any money changes hands.

I've noticed a VERY curious trend in pics taken of Mk 12's ( and also all guns in general). Shots taken indoors........look at the large percentage of weapons photographed on granite counter tops. WTF? We either have good taste, or select gals who also have good taste ( actually that's very obvious )

I'm formica yo.  Came with the house, too cheap to upgrade (and wouldn't see much return if any on the investment; nothing else in the neighborhood has granite so pricing way above everything else would be out of place).  When I can finally afford a SFH (maryland is fucking retarded on pricing and I only get so much BAH) i'll spec granite for sure.

I replaced my square one with a round one on my 9mm SD upper. The square one was too short to zero my 9mm. The round one would not lock into the detent. I had to enlarge the notch on the sight. My sight is a early slab side. I don't know if the current model is different. Sjr556.
