You're not gonna gain much (some, but not a whole lot) railestate by dropping the FSB and using a FF/clamp-on sight. Plus, once you drop the FSB you just deleted the biggest visual factor of a Dissy and you've just got a 16" with a long ass rail.

Well I thought I'd shave weight by using an A2 upper, but I found this spread sheet, if I stay with a flat top and go with a fixed chopped carry handle type if sight, I'd save a couple ounces over the A2 while keeping optics choices open.

Try to find a slick-side A4 and go with MBUS. Probably couldn't get much lighter than that.

Quick question guys.
Do you notice much difference in recoil between a fixed or collapsible stock using a rifle gas system? I have both on hand for this new gun but haven't made up my mind on which to use. |

View Quote the color is stainless from Cerakote (oven cure). the carry handle needs some cleaning, got it well used and never bothered to clean it up. the best part is that the balance on this thing is directly on the delta ring. so both my grips are pretty much equidistant from the center point meaning this thing feels perfect in hand. |

Okay, that barrel finally came in the other day. But I am leaving for more training tomorrow and then will be going directly overseas so it won't be built for a bit.
I think I will go all out on this build and order the parts while I am gone. That Evo barrel and the following is what I have in mind. Compact ACOG in a Larue mount that I already have. One of the solid trigger guard lowers that are available from a couple of different companies(not a billet lower) Flat top upper. M5 RAS (not high speed, but I like them) A.R.M.S. folding front sight Fixed stock of some sort Lightweight LED light of some kind. Folding rear back up sight of some sort(usually use Matechs since I use them at work, but we will see) Not sure on the muzzle device yet, but I may just go with an A2 to keep it short. Good aftermarket trigger kit of some sort as well. |

I have been using the Rustoleum camo paint. I do a base coat of Deep Forest Green. Usually 2-3 light coats and I use a heat gun to dry the paint. Then I do random swipes using Army Green (the lighter green) and Earth Brown. I ran out of the brown when I painted a different gun so I haven't been able to spray any on the Dissapator. I don't really do any metal prep other than wiping the gun down and taping off any areas the paint could get in the receiver. I then just hang the gun, spray it and use a heat gun in between coats to accelerate the curing process. I then try to let the gun sit for about a week before really using it to allow the paint to properly dry. That makes a big difference in reducing the wear.

I think the camera makes it look more greyish than it really is. This is the second time I have painted it. I just added a bunch of new stuff to it, so I just painted the whole gun again. There was brown on the previous coat and I tried to get it to show up a bit. In person it is definitely got more of a green hue than what the pictures show. Ill try to get some in direct sunlight while shooting and maybe that will show up better. I have also found that a light clear coat makes the colors contrast better, but can make the gun rather glossy if you use to much. |

What type of rail are you running. I have a Dissipator on the way and I'm looking for options. I like the profile on yours.
|
|
|
Assuming you're speaking to scuds, that's the rigle length Magpul MOE forearm. I have it on mine as well, and I've been very satisfied with it. It's comfortable and a very decent price. If you're the kind of guy that needs rails all down the gun, it's not for you, but there's slots to add sling mounts, vertical grips, and light mounts.

As stated above, rifle length MAGPUL MOE handguard. Great handguad for the $$. You cant see it in the photo but on the opposite side I have a small TLR-3 light mounted on a 5 slot rail piece.

So I’m kicking around the idea of assembly a “Dissipator” upper and I have a question.
Using a barrel that is .750 at the gas port area (it’s not a bull barrel), it would have to be turned down to .625 at the end of the barrel near the muzzle threads to install a FSB, so then I would need to use a .625 FSB with a flat top, right? |
