If someone wanted the best AR-15 money can buy, what do you think it would be?

To keep it simple, let's stick to the basic gun packages as made by the manufacturer.

Criteria:
- .223/5.56
- 16" barrell
- carbine

Looking forward to the opinions.
Mark

KAC SR15 E3 hands down.

Does everything a Colt/LMT does, but has more features built into it.

The HK416, if we could ever our hands on one, would be the other.

Noveske's are nice and I Love the press my N4 gets with the hammer forged double chrome lined M249 barrel, I also the SWS rails, Vltor, and Troy sites the Noveske comes with makes it one of the best looking rifles out there, but it does nothing special over my Bushmaster M4 I bought 4 years ago.

I have a couple complete LMT M4's that run flawlessly. As long as it fires when it is supposed to, it is the best rifle available.

16inch barrel and semi-auto fcg is not standard issue for infantry so that throws a wrench into it.  Otherwise I would say purchase parts or assemblies  from companies that have or have had military M16/M4 contracts/sub-contracts and you likely will be getting parts that would also go into their military guns.  It would be more efficient for a company to use legally compatable and same source parts in the military and commercial lines. Assemble your rifle and it should be as close as legally possible to all mil-spec.

There is no one answer that will fit all the needs of the shooter.

The correct answer is "as many as possible".

Why bother asking this rediculous question?

It's a valid question.  I'm sure he's fishing for a general idea of people's opinions.  If it wasn't for questions in this genre (best?/worst?) I wouldn't have known which manufacturers to specifically avoid when buying rifles, mags, ammo.

Also FYI:
The best local (to me) beer is Bavarian Bliss Hefewiezen.
The best regional beer is Oberon

Agreed. Or like asking "Colt vs XXX"

....but I love my Noveske and, dare I say, my DPMS was reliable as hell too.

The Arms Tech USR as featured in the las April issue of SWAT.  Now that Joe got a big military contract good luck in geting one.  But, a couple of us have him convinced to open a civilian line in his new, big. factory when he move into it next month.  Look at pics of Karzai's body gurads and many have the Compact16 with can.

nobody said les baer yet?  I thought those were supposed to be very good.  KAC is also up there.  But both brands are extremely pricey.  For a top quality duty gun(not so expensive you dont mind running it hard) id say sabre noveske lmt and colt all pretty much equal.  Noveske and sabre are known for having some of the best factory barrels on the market around these parts.

Easy.

#1 MSTN custom build. (it will of course be built with KAC, LMT, Colt, and Knights stuff)
#2 COLT 6920
#3 LMT Defender (complete rifle)

Don't give me that fucking DD or Noveske shit either.

Oh bullshit.

It might be the kind of question you ask a specific person in order to get their opinion.

It is NOT the kind of question you post on a forum for 100 different people to answer.

Case in point, look at the replies. CMMG? Stag? RRA?  Are you fucking kidding?

Most of the people replying are justifying their own purchases.

#1.Colt
#2.LMT
#3.Noveske

Be aware that Colts often use a different sized pin ,so you may have parts interchangability issues with
colt trigger parts and non-Colt lowers and non-Colt trigger parts .

My solution to this problem has been to purchase all Colts  and Colt spare internal parts .

Oh , and my favorite color is green.

Magpul Foliage Green to be precise .
