How about a picture thread dedicated solely to scoped AR rifles.  No iron sights, no red dots, no holographic sights, just good old fashioned glass.

I'll start with my current project.  Remington R-15 in .223 with an ACE ARFX fixed stock.  Tonight or tomorrow I'll update it with a Hogue pistol grip and a Leupold VX-I 3x9-40.  It is my first attempt at a quality scoped rifle and I am very happy with how it is coming along.  The only hold up is the ring/mount situation as I have no idea what I'm going to use.  I don't want to use a riser, but on the other hand I can't find rings tall enough for a good cheek weld around here.

I'll update this post as soon as I can figure out my scope situation.  Thanks for looking.

Ok, I've added the Leupold 3x9-40 VX-I and started building on the stripped lower I had.  I bought some Leupold "High" rings and they are close but I'm afraid they just aren't high enough.  I think I'll try some risers or maybe look for some Warne QD rings.  Either way, so far I am happy with the way it's turning out.

How about some opinions.  Should I stick with the ACE or go back to the Camo A2 stock?

It's a Millet Buck Gold 6-25x56mm scope. Very nice glass for the money. Clear, well made, accurate, holds zero.

Not a varmint gun per se.  I needed an AR that would get out to 300+ yards and still be light enough to drag around in the woods/desert all day.

Sorry about the front sight. Too lazy to cut it down.

I've had damn good luck with Millet glass as well.  I've got the Millet 1-4x24 30mm DMS on my .458 SOCOM and my 16" SS RRA Wylde upper.  I need to get off my arse and get pics of it posted here...

Camp Perry Snowflake Shoot 2008

You should try out a rifle with an extended riser (I know, you don't want one).
I had extra high rings for a long time, but switched over to the RRA cantilever riser after I started to get into groundhog hunting more.  The scope just could not be moved forward enough (for a comfortable, repeatable prone position) with rings alone.  It really did make my rifle easier to shoot.

OK, here's the latest update.  I found the Warne rings in an unlikely place actually, one of my local small town gunshops.  Rileys is the shop for you NH guys.  Anyway, same scope, same gun, just got rid of the Leupold rings and added a Hogue grip.

These rings are the QD version, is there a right or wrong way to install them?  I have the QD levers on the left?

Tried the photobucket thing.  Doesn't seem to want to load the pics for me.  I tried Imageshack with better results.  I will post photos of my rifle once I get home.  Haven't had a chance to do much to it at this point so it will be a work in progress.

I was waiting for a good time to use my 5000th post.Didn't really want to start a goofy thread or talk about poo or post whoring so....scrambling my brain to think of something witty for GD I thought I should dedicate it to the Tech forums, then it hit me.
 I was cleaning my bench rest / varmint rifle while watching the UFC fight for the Troops TV special tonight and couldn't be in a better mood.  I used my search fu to find this thread. Lots of great varmint rifles that make me jealous! I love long range or varmint rifles simply b/c there are so many ways you can set it up or configurations that you can come up with. This is my only longe range/varmint rifle. Despite the weight of this rifle, it is one of my favorite to shoot. Its not my SHTF or HD rifle it is purely for the range and varmint hunting. I do plan on a SPR or DMR in the future after the industry gets back to some what normal again,..hopefully.

First pic is with a DPMS grip with palm swell, meh I didn't really care for it so it was replaced with a Magpul MIAD

One of my latest...

*  DEZ Arms 13.7" barrel with a KX3 Noveske brake that I pin-and-welded to make it a legal 16"

*  Custom A3 upper receiver forging with the "Brunton Bump" machined off by yours truly (one-off, you won't see another like it ;) ), refinished in Gun-Kote flat black by yours truly.

*  CMMG Infidel lower receiver.

*  Millett DMS-1 latched to the upper with A.R.M.S. #22 medium QD rings on an A.R.M.S. #38 SE-X Swan Sleeve w/#40L BUIS.

*  Midwest Industries full-length free-float railed forearm.

*  Samson front BUIS.

*  Young's bolt carrier group.

*  Thermold 20-round mag modified/blocked to hold only five rounds by me.

*  Custom cut A2 pistol grip (shortened) by me.

*  Custom Knight's Armament rail panels (I filed down the ribs, for MY pleasure.  and refinished them in Aluma-Hyde matte black).

*  Vltor Mod Stock

I'm still thinking about switching the stock over to a retro 607-style stock that I'm building up at the moment...  It'll flow better with the lines of the rifle, I believe.

I also want to switch to a YHM front BUIS.  Once again, I believe it goes with the lines better than the Samson does.

All said and done, this little fucker wasn't cheap.  Hopefully I can get a coyote with it in the next few weeks.  :headbang:

Here is my Varmit Rifle.  Rock River Arms 20" SS Barrel, for those who don't believe in hand lapping to break in a stainless barrel, let's go shoot!  I can get .75" a 100 yards with cheap off the shelf ammo...hate to see if I would actully buy some good stuff or hand loads.  Believe what you want, if you spend the money, you might as well take the time to break it in right.
