I'm sure this has been mentioned before; but how about a dedicated 20" A4 sticky for us old fashioned long-rifle shooters

I see FiveO is brining back the old pics...

Sadly I don't have that beauty anymore.  So those are the only pics I can show for.  Sometime down the road when I'm not broke there will be a new one to replace it.  But the memories w/ that thing were awesome.  By far one of the best shooting rifles I've ever owned in AR form....and that's from a Colt barrel .

Dammit. Do you guys know what happened the last time I saw a thread like this? 1 month later this happened:

Now I think I need an ACOG.

it was either TA31RCO-A4 OR build a custom 1911... so i chose the 1911

Good choice...accessories will always be around and will always be improving...sadly we can't be guaranteed that guns will always be around.

well now I'm 1/2 way there.  I just got my A2 stock and put it onto one of my lowers.  I'm still undecided about putting a HBAR or going more true to the real deal and going with a gov-profile.

quick question...what kind of handguard cap does the real deal have on it?  Also what about the delta ring, I'm assuming just the regular old one and not the flat one.

Heres my basic A4. Just put it together this week.

Sabre Defense Gov. profile bbl, flat-top upper from PKFirearms.
I highly recommend them.
Hopefully someday I can get a KAC rail, and a Trijicon scope for it.

I want a TA31RCO-A4 but I can't justify playing $1,200 for an optic when I can do the same thing with an Aimpoint or EOtech. That's enough money for a second rifle and then some. It's a great optic but I can't get over the price.

I have been battling that same thought for a long time. I've come to the conclusion that I dont need any more rifles. I'm going to take the plunge and get one. After I have my a4 clone I will be good on ars for a while.I think.

I wish my Sabre upper w/ RAS would get here from PK Firearms.  I almost can't take it anymore.  I've also got a TA31F on layaway to round out of the rifle.

Update...it arrived yesterday.

Sabre M4 upper with Sabre 20" govt profile barrel.
KAC M5 RAS
Colt FA BCG
Colt CH
Colt A2 BUIS
LMT complete lower
A2 stock given to me by Zen Grasshopper (Thanks Jon)

Sighted it in today with the irons.  I don't know why, but I was shooting better with it than my 6920 w/ an Aimpoint M3.  I really like this rifle.  Just waiting to get my TA31F off layaway, trying to figure out what BUIS I want and get the necessary Blue Force Gear components to use my Vickers Sling to round out the package.

I sold a Marlin 39a and a S&W 686 to finance this A4 build. I had been wanting it for awhile. Very rarely do I sell gun, but with additions to my family I have had do some sacrificing.
I would love to have the KAC rail and the TA31RCO-A4. But I just cant justify selling off another gun or two just to get some $1200 optics, that if I am honest with myself(i hate doing that), may only see the range 3 or 4 times a year.
Hopefully I can swing the rail setup before too long, but I will have to write off the ACOG dream for quite awhile.

I'm just worried that with a Knights or other rail system it will be to heavy? I won't be carrying it around it'll be a range toy. Is yours posted? Gonna go look for it.

Yeah I always had problems with spending that much money on a rifle when I could pretty much build two more AR's with parts from the EE for that price. I just got the TA31F instead of the RCO A4

How do you like the Aimpoint on a 20 inch? Does it still do well at longer ranges? I was planning to buy an ACOG for mine but don't know if I can justify spending that kind of money on one now, so I've been thinking about going the Aimpoint route.
Link Posted: 9/25/2007 11:59:46 AM EDT
[#49]
I have absolutely no complaints about the Aimpoint.  My regular range is only 150 yards long, so I can't personally vouch for any range beyond that...yet.  At 150 yards, standing-offhand, it's almost mindless to hit 6"x 6" steel plates.  The first time I shot with a reflex/red dot optic I felt like I was cheating.

I was in the same position you are:  ACOG vs Aimpoint.  The Aimpoint made sense to me due to the type of shooting I normally do, not to mention the much smaller pricetag.  If I routinely shot longer distances and could justify the need for magnification, the benefits of the ACOG might outweigh the price difference.

The ACOG can still be used very effectively at close range
