THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Don't get all riled up, and I used caps just to grab your attention, here's why .... efoia.bis.doc.gov/ExportControlViolations/E871.pdf If anyone has anything pertinent to this document that invalidates it...then I'm all ears. Otherwise, we don't ship to Canadian civvies, sorry. The military is another story, not for discussion here. Mark LaRue |

Hell if you'd drop the bold all the time I wouldn't have a complaint about you..
My only question is did they KNOWINGLY violate the law or did it happen by accident or via a change in interpretation of the law? |

If you read the document Mark linked to, you will notice it is your State Dept export laws that they ran afoul of, not any Canadian laws... Mark, although I am no expert in all the rules and regulations pertaining to exporting gun parts up here, it's my understanding all you need is an export permit and to send your product to a Canadian company that has an import permit. I can check into our end more if you want. |

From the Reed Smith website:
“Between January and April of 2005, BIS announced charges against six different manufacturers and exporters of optical sighting devices for use on firearms for a total of nearly 1,400 illegal exports of rifle scopes and rifle scope components to Canada and a variety of other countries without the necessary export licenses. These charges resulted in a total of nearly $1.5 million in fines and may result in the denial of export privileges for certain of these companies if further violations occur. The companies charged with violations are Carl Zeiss Optical, Inc., The Sportsman’s Guide, Inc., Bass Pro, Inc., North Pass, Ltd., Cabela’s Inc., and Williams Gun Sight Company, Inc” |

It is really as simple as getting US State department approval.
For a US Mfg to export, you and the client need to fill out a DSP-83 form. For Canadians to import over $100 of firearm parts we need a 1020 form from International Trade Canada. The US Government has bugged us for years to spend more on defense, which was understandable when the Liberals were in power, however now more and more, paper work and limits are being put on what is allowed to be exported out of the US even though the new government and companies are trying to buy. We would buy more, your government won't let us. |

This is what you get for doing export without the permits needed. LOTS of stuff is shipped to canada Every week with all the necessary papers and its 100 % legal to do so.
Most corporation wont deal with the added pain for individuals. That is also 100% understandable. So In commes the importers... like most bizz you have the bad guys and the good guys. Lots of american manufacturer will contract with one of the bigest police equipment corp in canada named nicolls www.rnicholls.com they are exclusive importer for hundreds of american manufacturers AND they SUCKS BIG TIME they wont sell flashlight or ANYTHING to civilian (BTW: they also SUCKS for police departement and millitary ,nobody can get what we need) this cause most american manifacturer to think there is no market in canada ![]() On the other hand you have PROFESSIONAL importer that will do everything legaly AND both provide to the civilian and millitary market. here is a couple of websites you should check out. You will see they import products very similar to your own and then somme. all legaly and have good client bassis www.wolverinesupplies.com/ www.questar.ca/ www.theshootingedge.com/ www.armseast.com/ ANY of thoses guys would jump at the opportunity to become your importer and will take care of all the paper work an import export mombo jombo for you. there are many others but thoses are the big guys and they are all verygood at what they do |
