That unit is the Israeli Border Guard. The IDF doesn’t throw things away. The problem is that the older stuff is rifled 1/12 for the 55gr m193 and the newer stuff m4 barrels are rifled for the 62gr ss109/m885.

The US had the same problem until OEF.. and maybe later In 2004 we had guys with M16A1 lowers. They had new A2 and M4 uppers though. You could tell right away who had those rifles by the two tone look the rifles had. The lowers were pretty old. Never saw any A1 uppers though. |

Saw almost every IDF x95 when I was there had that same chamber flag and bungee set up. I think it’s something manufactured and issued, not soldier improvised.
I think that set up with the chamber flag and bungee allows them to keep a live magazine in the weapon.

I guess I should've said ejection port dust cover rod retainer, to be perfectly clear. |

Hornady Rapid Rack
https://www.hornady.com/shop/accessories/hornady-rapid-rack I have one. They work. Some LE agencies use them so they can keep a loaded magazine in the gun. It does work faster than the charging handle. YMMV |
They used to use these. I have one in my parts box.
E-Lander Magazine in old-style IDF Mag Carrier. It is turned down for faster loading. The mag can also be turned up for more streamlined carry. MTH Magazine carrier replaced the TMC and holds the magazine an a way that keeps it the weapon more compact and is quicker to load. https://israeldefensestore.com/fab-defense-accessories/fab-defense-mth-horizontal-magazine-carrier.html |

Engraved above the magwell is 8 - 23 - ANAD (Anniston Army Depot) Which is typically how weapons are marked when they've gone through a rebuild or at least inspection at the depot level. |
