My KISS AR, but I guess it qualifies for at least almost-IDF status.  It's my first build and now I have three more stripped lowers just waiting for more pay checks.  What is a good source for those Israeli slings and forearm elastic bands?

Well, I got my latest build together tonight.  Used the matte black Gunkote, but it's perhaps a bit too shiney.

This KISS carbine is built on an 80% lower, Model 1 lt. wt. 16" barrel, RRA Match 2-stage trigger, M16 slick-sided upper, Smith chrome bolt & carrier, an old plastic stock, A1 pistol grip, BM slipover flash hider, and a fixed 10-round mag (CA law for OLL's).

The thing weighs 5.9 pounds as you see it.  It would be a few ounces lighter with a small GI flash hider.

4.  I didn't see any orilite magazines
4.  Add the safe magazine insert which holds one under.
5.  Use the old style sling without the buckle thingy
6.  Not very many carbines.  95% are full size.
7.  M16-SAW cut the stock and barrel to make a carbine.
8.  No electronics.  No accessories.
9.  No flattops.
10.  Make sure the blueing is heavily worn off.
11.  Everything should be stock.  They do not use any special handles.

I can answer any other questions you have.

Now I want to see an IDF M1-carbine.  They still use these, and you see them all over Israel.

IDF M1-Carbines
1.  Use 15 round USGI mags
2.  Have the buttstock attachment, for the mags
3.  Use IDF sling
4.  Beat the hell out of your rifle and carry it with you all the time everyday.

I noticed all sorts of optics in use around Tel Aviv and in Jerusalem - the capitol.  Many looked like the original Colt short BDC scopes from thje 1970s.  At cafes and fast food places, its common to put your rifle under the table while you eat. It gets kicked around a lot under there, and it shows. I suppose if the shooting starts, you are likely to go under the table anyway, so its a good place to keep the gun until you can get it into action.  IDF gear is not known for its uniformity nor do they get hung up on "standards" the way we do.  They emphasize being prepared at all times. Everywhere.

And IDF fights where it lives so they fight to win.

The original AR-15 handguards were made of brown fiberglass. Later they were made of green, and then black, plastic. Many of the fiberglass handguards were painted green.

How exactly do i tie my IDF sling to my rifle?  I can't figure out the paracord.  I tried looking all over the internet.  I don't know if it makes a difference, but i ordered my sling from dsgarms.com.

I just took about a 12" piece tied a knot in one end, looped it thru itself around the front sight tower, clipped hook to it. Same deal on rear.

I remember a story in SOF magazine years ago covering some IDF reserve state police unit.

At that time, many of the officers in this unit carried M1 carbines, and eventually even replaced the wood stocks with Choate sidefolders.

I wonder who is using those carbines now, as I would imagine that those cops would have gone to either M16s or perhaps that Israeli bullpup M1 carbine conversion, or perhaps they still use them, Choate stocks and all.

MARS website
The domestic red dot is one called the MARS sight for Multipurpose Aiming Reflex Sight.  I saw more than a couple of them on US M4's during my last deployment.  The ACOG is also very popular among the IDF.

dsgarms used to have a how to on their website. Send them an email and they will probably help you out. If that doesn't work send me an IM and I'll make a step by step for you.

This looks pretty close to the few carbines that I saw.  Most of the M16s are full sized older US.  They are still using the A1s, or atleast the women are.  Most of the Carbines I saw were for special units.

I do like the M1 Carbine.  Here is my RRA Elite CAR A4.  It is not as KISS as the rest here, but this is as complicated as it gets.  No optics really planned.  I may do a scope, but only if I start shooting competitively.

My M16A2 clone. The lower in the pic has KNS pins, but I've since swapped lowers and the new lower no longer has them.
