Was wondering, is there any problem when building an IDF clone with an M-4 profile barrel with feed ramps and a A-1 upper receiver. Is this a problem since the A-1 receiver does not have them?

                                                                        Thanks for the help!!

They provide grip when it's hot and you're sweaty. On the stock it makes sure that the stock doesn't change position. In my pic, it isn't necessary, but it adds to the authenticity feel.

Nice photography!!!

But that one under the falling water makes the old soldier in me cringe. Deliberately soaking the rifle. But I'll let it slide for arts sake.

And in some cases they are used as unit identifiers. For instance, some dignitary protection units will mark their weapons with colored tape in a bright and distinctive color.

Bottom carbine....CMMG 14.5" w/Perma phantom upper on a Stag lower

Late version IDF M4 clone

SDI extended FH
Bushmaster 14.5" M4 profile barrel/ handguards
CMT upper receiver
Bushmaster A2 carry handle
BCM bolt carrier assm. complete
DPMS lower receiver and LPK
BCM Milspec. RET and M4 stock
FAB pistol grip, handguard rail, elastic handguard bands, and sling from Zahal.org

Overall it handles nice, light and handy.  The pistol grip looks funky but fits well in my hand.  The sling is comfortable and carries the carbine up front.  It's easy to raise the weapon from carry to a shooting position by squeezing the release buckle on the front of the sling,  that allows the sling to lengthen and easily shoulder the weapon.  I ordered a FAB front pistol grip but it is too big for my hand so I left it off.  Fab also makes a collapsible buttstock (looks exactly like the Sig 556 stock) but I passed on that.
Zahal.org's website was easy to use and I had my parts in 3 weeks from Israel.  Check out their website, they have some neat stuff.

I dont usually hand out many compliments on other people's weapons, but I must say that these rifles, almost to that last, are incredible. Good work, all.

I just realized that I have some of the parts I need to start my own. I would like to have the flat-top option instead of the fixed carry handle, though.

Almost done with my KISS carbine inspired by this thread.  a +1 to getting this thing stickied.

I have a question about the IDF sling - how are you all attaching it.  Are you tying it in a loop where the cord attaches to the sling or what?  I got the sling and grip thing from Zahal and I'll be damned if I'm not getting outsmarted by two pieces of string!

+2 to the sticky!

I believe it was DSG Arms that used to have an explanation of how to do it on theu website. I can't find it now...

Well, I figured out how to outsmart the two pieces of string..... at least temporarily.

Here is my build inspired by this thread.  Essential Arms Lower, RRA LPK (Legal Transfers), Stag collapsible stock (Rainier), a Bushy superlight weight barreled A2 upper (PKFirearms - zoiks, seriously fast shipping with them), Bravo Company BCG.  IDF sling and grip thing from Zahal.

I have about 150 rounds through it, no target, but it is minute of clay pigeon accurate. It is a nice shooter.

This was a very bad thread.  I finished my first AR and saw this thread and immediately built this on.  2 ARs, 1 month.

Very bad.

Please sticky.

Here are my tips.  I've seen a lot of IDF rifles in person.

1.  A-1 Rifles,  they use tons of these.
2.  Anything beat up is IDF
3.  Add a lot of surgical tape to your rifle
4.  I didn't see any orilite magazines
4.  Add the safe magazine insert which holds one under.
5.  Use the old style sling without the buckle thingy
6.  Not very many carbines.  95% are full size.
7.  M16-SAW cut the stock and barrel to make a carbine.
8.  No electronics.  No accessories.
9.  No flattops.
10.  Make sure the blueing is heavily worn off.
11.  Everything should be stock.  They do not use any special handles.

I can answer any other questions you have.

Now I want to see an IDF M1-carbine.  They still use these, and you see them all over Israel.

IDF M1-Carbines
1.  Use 15 round USGI mags
2.  Have the buttstock attachment, for the mags
3.  Use IDF sling
4.  Beat the hell out of your rifle and carry it with you all the time everyday.
