Very nice.  I'm not up on all the new parts and I always see these grips but don't know what kind that is.  What grip is that?

Yeah, that's another good one. I preferred the BCM simply because I needed a "deeper" grip and the cutout under the K2's beavertail defeated that.

Potato pics with terrible lighting of the SEAL Recce, once the ground dries up I'll get some better photos outdoors.
Heavily influenced by the likes of chenault and secretwheelman, I really like how it turned out, and can't wait to put some rounds through it.

ETA: Better pics:

And the Block II borrowed the Leupold:

It's an ok rifle for having a bunch of weird parts on it. My buddy I bought it from called it a RECCE and kept saying it like “wrecky”. Beats me why he said it like that. Looks like Reese's to me, and I like peanut butter cups. So I thought, Cool! He is a Marine and worked with a lot of SEALs and was a SWAT commander so he says lots of weird stuff like RECCE.

He told me the specs for it:
It has a Lilja 16” M4-Navy profile barrel. SEAL contract barrel. Lilja sounds like Italian or something. Never heard of it.
The lower is a Colt. I thought they just made 1911's. But I guess they tried to make AR's for a while. The finish is not as nice as a Spikes or Anderson. But whatever.
The sights and handguard are Knights Armament. Which I guess is ok. Finish is not as nice as some of the UTG PRO stuff. But it will do.
He called the Stock a SOPMOD. Sounds French.
The scope is a Leupold Mark 4 1.5-5x20 in a LaRue mount. Both of those sound french too. I guess it's ok. It's illuminated. Maybe a Chinese copy of a Nikon?
Bipod and a Surefire on ARMS mounts. Dumbasses. You use FINGERS to take them on and off. Not ARMS!
Trigger is a Chip McCormick 2,5# single stage. I thought McCormick just made spices. Anyway it is way too lite. Probably should replace it with a mil spec.
I don;t know what the heck is up with the flash hider. Someone must have dropped it and taken a chunk out of it.

WOW.  Thats how u do a recce.  And from what I understand, it IS pronounced "wrecky".  "Recky" like Becky.  Don't the Brits call doing a recon, a recce.  Or maybe everyone does now.

Wait, you've gotta be pulling our legs about some of this stuff....

Yep. That's how the Brits pronounce it, and it sounds better than 'wreck' right? You want a treat? Find some Andy McNab thrillers and read him. Real world SAS operator turned novelist. Way it's done. Good stuff, and I don't say that lightly.

Thinking about re-building my recce except with a medium FF RAS and a Krieger this time around. Probably after this next build I will get around to it.

Here's my recce inspired AR... A work in progress:

-Aero Precision upper, lower, and KMR
-Wilson Combat Recon barrel, 1/8 twist, mid-length gas
-Wilson Combat adjustable gas block
-LWRC parts kit
-BCM BCG
-Geiselle SSA-E
-KAC micro BUIS
-Magpul STR stock, MOE grip and trigger guard
-BCM rail covers
-Standard bird cage (Silencerco Specwar 762 is in NFA jail right now, so I'll probably go with the corresponding brake)
-MRO is just a place holder right now.  I'm leaning towards the Leupold XVR Patrol 3-9 (great Mil/LEO discount) for the optic.  Not sure on the mount quite yet.

No idea why this won't display, it works in the Preview...

Amazingly accurate.  Thanks for sharing.  Appreciate the wit.  I got the barrel and am working on the rest.  Have a way to go, still.  I thought muzzle device would be Ops Inc. 12th brake and collar.  I don't like brakes, though and don't plan to run a can.  Is that FH a KAC?

Well after two years of collecting parts, saving, and reading I finally have my recce rifle built up. The original plan was to build a SEAL recce but it kinda morphed into this as I read more, shot more, and better understood what I really wanted and needed. The upper was assembled by Ayan at boltcarrier.com.

Can't wait to get it to the range. The Docter and irons will be zeroed at 50yds and the scope at 100. The light is there because it's on duty for coyote patrol at the moment. Bipod will come off for hunting/non-bench shooting.

Until I can get it to the range to test performance my only comments are:

1. It's HEAVY!!!
2. I'm weak.
3. The Vortex scope is perfect. I originally planned on an NF but I honestly don't think the price tag and marginal differences are worth it for me. I'm new to scoped rifles and this fills all my needs.
4. The 12 o-clock Docter is cool and simultaneously harder and easier to use than I expected.
5. Ayan does great work. The rail is mounted flush with the receiver and even appears tack welded in two spots. Shouldn't have problems with the rail moving!
6. The $35 Harris knock-off works fine. I got tired of spending money on top of the line parts when I won't be going to war with the gun.
7. The whole rifle feels really natural to me. Cheek weld on the SOPMOD puts my eye right on the scope with the 1.375" NF mount.

A pic a la MNRidesHonda...I'll take more later.

And another...

Unlike some, I like to get a complete cost breakdown, so here's a complete price and cost breakdown. The EE was a godsend for many parts. The upper started life as a BCM mid-length SS416 URG but I ended up selling everything but the receiver and BCG as I researched. Everything went on the EE for enough to keep the per part price reasonable.

BCM Upper Receiver Group minus barrel, FSB, comp, etc => $249.95
BCM Lower Receiver => $348.99
B5 SOPMOD Enhanced stock => $78 (EE)
Geissele SSA trigger, new => $155 (EE)
DD CH => $20 (EE)
BE Meyers flash hider => $105 (EE) could have done better on this...
BCM .750 gas block => $45
MBUS PRO sights => $129
NF 1.375" Unimount => $200 (EE)
Wilcox NF/Docter mount P/N 35101P01 => $200
Docter MRDS 3.5MOA, new => $275
Vortex 2.5-10x32 MRAD FFP scope => $612 (EE)
Rainier 16" .223 Wylde barrel, Rock Creek blank => $299.90
Rifle gas tube => $13
KAC URX 3.1 rail w/ covers set => $250 (EE)
VCAS padded sling => $55
KAC bipod/sling stud => $18
Harris knock-off bipod => $35

Total = $3,062.89
Out of pocket cost = $2,293.97

(I sold parts off another AR as well as some parts I'd collected that brought the cost down a bit.)

Now I get to spend money on expensive ammo.

This was at 100 yards with a 2015 lot of CBC 77gr.  Rounds fired were numbers 450-465.  I just moved and haven't had time to do any handloading let alone find my calipers to get a good measurement of the groups.

Made a few changes since I posted this last; picked up the legacy SF and old-school weaver mount, ditched the Leupy 1.5-5, and got the Docter for the TRR/TRC setup. Been spending too much on my M110K1 lately but when my NT4 gets approved this month I plan on looking for a higher mag Leupold Mk4 to wrap this build up... until I need a PEQ-2

Wow the last 2 pages have had some outstanding builds!

Minion-I dig the recce with the KAC URX. A nice modern twist on the platform.

usnguns- Always been a fan of that rig.

gaston-The MRE makes me very jealous. That build is pretty slick even minus the can and optic. Can't wait to see it finished.

To give an update on my build: I had some frustration with my KAC FF RAS. I had it installed only to have some "slop" and movement in it. I confirmed the barrel was not moving, barrel nut was torqued, and locking ring was very tight. I compared it to my carbine FF RAS and noticed the MK12 locking ring "bottomed" out on the rail itself. Picture below for comparison. Anyway, this morning I was able to remove the locking ring and replace with one from another rail. Using the same barrel nut and rail I got a solid lockup. I'll send the original back to KAC for evaluation. Maybe this information will help somebody out if they ever run into the same issue. Looking forward to getting my recce back in action!

Carbine FF RAS on left with solid lock up. MK12 FF RAS on right with "slop". Notice bottomed out locking ring.

This was at 100 yards with a 2015 lot of CBC 77gr.  Rounds fired were numbers 450-465.  I just moved and haven't had time to do any handloading let alone find my calipers to get a good measurement of the groups.

What happened? You had to move into Section8 housing after buying that barrel? I know what those fuckers go for lol. That's my dream recce right there. Is that barrel able to be contoured to fit any Ops Inc collar?

Here's what the Lilja does at 100 for me but this was before I knew better about 3 rounds groups lol

However one thing I did not like about the Lilja's were the gas port sizing. It is grossly over-gassed in my opinion and experience. The blanks were Lilja but chambering was done at Compass Lake and I am assuming to a smaller gas port sizing.

Here's one at 200 yards - a bit of dialing turrets and stuff but not sure why I was shooting up there since it's been so long. I think I might've shot out the red center and chose another area.

I'm glad you mentioned the port sizing. Their spec sheet shows a port of 0.080 which seems pretty large for a 16" barrel with a carbine-length gas system. I was not sure if this was the actual spec, the result of the Wylde chamber (it has been alleged on TOS that port sizing is only one variable determining gas pressure in the system, where chamfering can also influence it; I'm not sure how true that is), or something else.

Not trying to start a gas port size debate, but who wants a $500 barrel that beats the hell out of the system? I suppose there are always heavier buffers and adjustable gas blocks.

Here's the Lilja M4-Navy schematic:

The carbine gas system was always a turn off for me on the Liljas. I know that's the "recce spec" but I opted for a CLE Douglas midlength. I'll be breaking it in this weekend.

Are there any examples of a KAC FSGB with a FSB rail like a MRE-B or RIS II FSP floating around? I haven't made it through this entire thread but it seems like options are probably limited as far as handguards go since the sight is further forward when deployed than a FSB. The MRE looks like it would accommodate one but the RIS II probably wouldn't have enough clearance without modification.

I was already in Section 8...now I'm under the bridge with all my shit in a shopping cart.  The barrel would have to be turned down and a custom collar used in order to accommodate the Ops/Allen can.

usnguns and mjohn3006 - thanks for posting quickly!

usnguns - your build is my favorite on the site. I just finished a build with an ALG mlok rail and a DD S2W which works well, but I have a hankering to clone your clone.

I doubt this was the spec as there are recce rifles that sport suppressors. can you image a .080 with a can? lol

I had to use an H3 buffer in mine.

This is the reason I am looking at the Krieger for my next recce or purchasing the Lilja blank and sending it off to compass lake.
