It's been a while since I've been on here.  The SWFA is the SS HD 1-6 and is out fricking standing!  I took these out to zero them for the kids, I was able to put 4 rounds (only shot that many for accuracy) into a group less than a quarter at 100 yards.  With a 6x scope, CHF bbl of the SR15E3 Mod1 upper and an SDC trigger my daughter's gun kicks ass!  My son's gun still needs to get an MRDS of some flavor on a 45 offset.  I really like his gun.  I had an almost identical set up to this in 6.8 that I sold a few years ago.  He loves his gun, I got him situated on my Atlas and a rear bag and he started to destroy milk/pop bottles at 100, proud dad moment when your 6 year old can tag jugs all by himself

If he's got the balls to chop a new FF RAS, I've got the balls to buy it from him.

That way, I won't be hated for modifying it any further.

Mmmm, that USO tho.. Surprised I don't see more of those on these and SPR builds. Better features (IMO) than the Leupold Mk 4s and NF.

I're really been wanting to build a Delta c.2001 carbine for a hot minute.  All of the KAC stuff is easy to get, it's just that MRE-B and wacky A2/flashlight thing that's a real bastard to find.  and the really cool part is that if i change glass and swap vfg for a bipod it's a recce B)

Meh, I think trying to do a "military clone" "recce" thread probably wouldn't go too far.

By far the biggest problem is that no one can really agree on what the definition should/would be anyways.  Personally, I tend to have a relatively restrictive definition, others have more expansive ones.

Even if you could agree on a definition; if you went with a more restrictive one, you'd end up with maybe about a dozen pictures, and a couple dozen posters with the desire and money to "clone" those rifles, and then the topic would peter out and slip into the archives.

If you went with a more expansive definition then it would become a long race to the bottom until it basically became the same thread as this one, with a "concept" and "anything goes."

You could restrict it to only parts seen in use by the military... but even then, you'd end up with so much mixing and matching and "well I saw this in this picture, and this in this picture" that we'd be back to people building "concept" stuff.

The other big problem is that SOPMOD, the SPR, etc. are programs, they can be studied and discussed in terms of their history and development.  Unit purchases, individual modifications, etc. are much harder to track, and really it becomes a "he said, she said" scenario, and everyone ends up choosing what they like best anyways and fighting over it.

You could try a "SOF GWOT Magnified Carbine" thread - but that would become a hybrid of posting random SOF photographs, people trying to identify stuff in them, people trying to find the same obscure parts that were purchased at U.S. CAV circa 2002, and then you'd run into the question of - well... when does an M4A1 Block II qualify in this thread?  When it has an other-than-SOPMOD scope?

The AFSOC thread can be a good example, too, when you try to do a non-program "clone" thread... too few rules, too many variations, not enough to discuss.  It exists, it won't archive... but it basically gets resurrected once every couple of months with a new picture, little to no discussion, then falls back into the dark recesses until Lancelot decides to bump it with a new photograph he came across.

Ive always labeled Recce rifles as a 16" barrel (CL or SS), with a variable power optic, capable of engaging targets in the close to mid-range spectrum. After that, does it really matter? Its an all around gun, literally perfect for most situations. You can clone all you want, but being able to accurately engage targets and stay in the fight is where it matters.

Who cares if its a Lilja barrel or not, can it shoot out 500+ yards? Can you shoot out to 500+ yards? Is it reliable and consistent? Are you reliable and consistent? If yes, then its a Recce rifle.

Yea, I don't think its necessary to go full "Mk18 Clone Thread" in here.
16" with extended rail and variable low powered optic should do it.

What about any of that is specific to reconnaissance?  Or have we forgotten what "recce" means?

So... is an M16A2 a "recce?"  It can shoot out to 500+ yards.  3/4ths of the "yes it's a Recce rifle" criteria listed have to do with what "you" can do with the rifle, and have nothing to do with the rifle... which would be fine... except, you're trying to define what a specific type of rifle is.

Maybe I'm being obtuse, but it seems to me, a "recce" rifle should be for recce, not "an all around gun, literally perfect for most situations."  That kind of sounds like a "General Purpose" rifle to me, but I guess "GP" Rifle thread isn't as cool as "Recce," huh?

Everything you've said except for "16" barrel with a variable power optic" is a vague platitude that could refer to just about any basic, standard issue military rifle with a decent set of sights - because they're typically all designed to be "capable of engaging targets in the close to mid-range spectrum" and be an "all around gun...for most situations" that an adequately trained marksman should be "able to accurately engage targets and stay in the fight."

"Recce rifles" as a concept, detached from their military history and background, are at best a misnomer, and at worst a meaningless, arbitrary category with no reason for existence other than to let people feel cool because they get to use a fun and unusual name.  I feel the same way about "SPR" ("Special Purpose Rifle?" What the fuck is that supposed to mean?  If my rifle's primary purpose is launching golf balls, isn't that a "special purpose rifle?"), but that's neither here nor there.

No one was talking about changing this thread or turning it into a clone thread, they were talking about starting a new one that you wouldn't've needed to participate in if you didn't want to.

But no, keep thumbing your nose at other people because they happen to be interested in different things than you are.

It is a fine looking carbine.  I always thought those saddle things looked cheap, but they're growing on me.  Plus I think I actually like the way it makes a waffle stock look.  I like them when shouldering, but they're just sort of goofy looking to me.  I mean what the heck is the point of the waffle stuff anyways?  Maybe rigidity.  But anyways....  it's funny how you left part of the BCM unpainted.

Thanks.  I intentionally taped over the BCM to leave it exposed.

The stock saddle enhances my cheek weld IMMENSELY.  The OEM waffle stock that came with the lower simply did not provide for any repeatable cheek weld whatsoever.  So, for $20, I improved my cheek weld and salvaged that stock.  Otherwise, I'd have to 86 it for something else.   Every so often I think of swapping it out but keep coming back to how comfortable it is and how it simply just "works".

Damn nice find. The KAC FSGB I found for my SAM-R just so happened to have its bayo lug trimmed down to fit inside a custom cut URX but I never got to see it in its full config. I wish I could see more pics of this one to see if they had to alter the gb or if they made cuts in the rail to fit around it. Inquiring minds need to know

This is a friend of mines gun, he purchased it from our store. That pic originated from our stores Instagram page. I'll find some more photos of it

Solid trio right there. Always been a fan of the paint on the middle one.

Thanks, the one in the middle is mine

The owner of the Recce we've been talking about shot that gun at the SPR/DMR match last weekend. Gun shot great for him, he made his hits out to 630 yards. Here's a couple more pictures.
