Outrider, I can’t quite make out the writing on the rail. Is that the Mk8? How do you like it? I’m debating a 15” mk8 or mk14 (would love a mk16 in 15” without the Arca bottom).

It’s the MK8. It’s pretty good but not my favorite shape to hold. The Mk14 is more ergonomic and comfortable to hold but the KAC Mod 2 gas system is on the tall side so I wanted some more room. Even then it may be a bit close.

BCM 16” Recce.  Waiting for a Razor with 4 more Xs and a can to clear.

Well here she is. My first foray into the Recce style rifles and also my first decent (semi?) glass.
Aero Enhanced upper and lower
BA 1/7 14.5" barrel (pinned)
ALG trigger - trying to decide whether to go to MBT or SSA. I prefer single stage.
Toolcraft BCG
Rock River A2 stock and internals
Aero Extended mount
Leupold Patrol 3-9

So next up is going to be a good bipod and trigger. I'm not going to bother with BUIS or a light on this one. I'd rather sink that into more ammo and range time.
Oh yeah and I can't take pics for shit...enjoy.

Nice.

I vote stick with the ALG and add the JP springs.  They're a lot cheaper and if you like a good single stage, you'll spend easily 10x the price of the springs on a new trigger and might get close.

Wrecky.

20200623_125436 by Professor Horseyhead, on Flickr

That AA2520 tho, hot damn.  25.2 grains under a 77smk was sending them almost 2770fps average.  From the 15.1" barrel you see above.

Hovers around MOA (anywhere from 0.8 - 1.2) so hopefully the same load works well in my Mk12 Mod 1 once I finally get it out to the range (brake en route from Adco now).  The H seems to like it too; the Recce and H are Ballistic Advantage barrels, Mod 1 is a White Oak.

Had some 52 ELD's over Varget pushing about 2820 (lower load as that's what my WO varmint barrel prefers) from the same gun, those were sub-MOA too.

I suppose if I had to bug out with one single rifle......this would be up there.

Haven't shot it yet, curious to see how NX8 compares with the 2.5-10x24 on my other recce.

Hows it feel and balance overall? Strongly considering the same exact thing.

It feels good. Gonna change out the A2 grip to a MOE, maybe add an AFG2 since I'm a C-clamp guy, and add a top ring mount for an Aimpoint H1/T1. I have a top ring mount for a docter/MRDS but it just sits too low and the elevation turret blocks most of the window.

Took the recce out to 500yds on some steel today. I continue to be very impressed with this rifle, especially the Rainier Arms ultramatch barrel.

How do you guys with 3-(higher number) like your scopes at closer ranges?

I'm planning on a build and part of me wants a 1-8x, but for longer range stuff (which I want to do), well, my eyes aren't what they used to be and I might appreciate the bigger zoom. But the closer stuff is a question.

If you want anything other than a 1x, you're gonna want a red dot on top or to the side for close stuff.

Looks weird without the Troy flip up sights on there.  They were on there since I built the rifle in 2008.  Hopefully I can get it sighted in soon.

1. I want a short recce - something good for both CQB and long(er) range, say 0-500m

2. This will be based on a 12.5" mid-length with Mk12 FF RAS, which I will chop the first few notches off

3. As much as I love the AEM5/12th, it's just too heavy for a carbine can, so it's time to pony up for an NT4

4. As much as I want a x24mm NF, for the same money or less, I can scoop up the new 1-8x34mm FFP Trijicon Accupoint, so not clone-correct

5. Rounding this build out will be a modified PRI Holland recce rail and a set of NF medium rings

Here's where I'm torn: I can build exactly what you have while I save and wait for the NT4 but that means modifying the barrel twice instead of building it once.

Thoughts?

@RTUtah do you have any pics of the modified PRI recce rail (if that ever came to fruition)? I'm thinking of modding one to fit on an Armalite fiberglass tube.

@CMCctx I don't even remember thinking up such a build, haha! I did modify a PRI top rail to work on an airsoft knockoff medium FF RAS I used on my M&P 15/22. Thing's all the way in the back of my safe so if you really want me to, I'll dig it out and post a pic or two.
