How'd you paint the upper and still have the T slot numbers on top??? Did you paint them in with a toothpick or something?? Looks cool

Picture for page own age

I have no real good reason for it, but I think I threw a piece of tape over the top of the rail, just to keep those numbers.  LOL.  WHY?????

Thanks...  I like this scope better than the 2x7 VX-1 I sometimes have on there.  That thing just looks too small and wrong.  And 9x is better from the bench......

Thanks, it's a really smooth shooter, and way more accurate than I am. The potential is there, I just need more practice and a better trigger to get some groups worth posting.

Edit: Pic thread.

My 16" Build
Link Posted: 1/16/2017 9:37:02 PM EDT
[#13]
Went to the range on my vacation spent 4 hours. Installed an Aero scope mount so I rezeroed using wolf 55gr  and dialed it in with my go to ammo federal fusion msr.  I tried different points of aim and holds to try and keep groups separate and not over lap.  I have found my rifle has a preference for 62-69gr ammo 75-77 opens up no matter the brand. I ordered new turrets from Leupold to match the Fusion MSR then I gotta go rezero again but its the ammo I will be using for future hog hunts

Then switched to Nosler Custom Match 69gr  which has produced my best groups so far with this rifle

bottom right was from wolf test shots

Nice shooting DevL

Hey Tanner, what type of mag baseplate is that and where did you get it?

Bzugger, there's something especially nice about yours.  And that's saying a lot because everyone's is really nice.  Probably is the paint job and your Vltor you don't see a lot of.

I try not to be a clone snob.  But dat MOE just don't look right.    I would've thought better of you.    Now me on the other hand.......

That is an awesome build.  You shoot it with that scope yet?  I was wondering how you like it.  I keep debating on optics for me recce...  Seems like it needs to be a 1-4 or something similar to look right.  But like I said, I'm no strict cloner.....  And will I just be thinking I want more magnification all the time.  That being said, I did a range session once with this A1 I had.  With a 4x carry handle scope and actually shot pretty well.  So I'm not sure 4x isn't enough to be fun and have good results.  It wasn't sub MOA or anything like that.  But 1.5-2 MOA consistent.  With an A1.  And a carry handle.  So.......

But then I'll want a real sopmod stock.......  And those aren't cheap.

Got mine out shooting today.  Had some technical difficulties so only fired a few groups.  69gr FGMM shot the best for me.
Groups were fired off a concrete bench utilizing a Harris bi-pod (no rear bag).  Need to try out some more ammo and get a rear bag to help with stability.

Ha I'm trying out the MOE because it's lighter than the SOPMOD. Trying to keep the weight down especially since I'm adding an aimpoint to the mix.

I haven't shot this build yet, but I have plenty of time behind the NF x24. Great scope in a smaller package.

My "Recce Rifle" is more traditional.  Its a M&P Sport with a RRA 2 Stage Trigger and a TA01 NSN ACOG.  Magpul furniture.  Shoots under an inch, light weight and handy.

I know it doesn't have a mid length gas system or a long front rail or forward assist or variable power scope or... but it has been reliable and it puts a hurting on the coyotes.

I also have a little 22LR clone.  It has a ACOG knock off which serves 2 purposes: 1) Teach the kids to shoot AR15s and 2) cheap practice using the ghost ring irons on top of the ACOG for close quarters work.

Is it that much lighter????  What are you talking about adding an AP?  You gonna add a T-1 on a 45 mount?

I wanted to like the CTR.  I had one once and it felt all wrong to me.  I felt like I was embedding my teeth through my cheek, into the stock to get behind my scope in my larue mount.  Now if I had that taller mount KevinB has, it wouldn't have been like that.  They make a lot of sense cuz of the flat part on the bottom for bench / precision shooting for your left hand.  But my face couldn't live with it.  I had a regular one too and not a moe.  But I didn't think they were that much lighter than a sopmod.......
