I don't think this ones been shared before.  A screenshot from Kyle Defoor's Instagram page of his Recce upper.  In the comments, he says the barrel is a 16-17 year old Lilja.

Yes, a few years ago Colt produced a run of 6920s that were anodized FDE and OD; I believe the initial run was 500 units each.  Subsequent production runs were cerakoted rather than anodized.  Colt also produced a short run of anodized FDE 6940s however I am unclear of the amount of units produced.  I was fortunate to snag one when they were initially offered and I immediately started modifying it to what you see today.  I probably should have left it stock, however I can't leave anything alone.

I love it, it's nice having the 6x zoom. Glass is clear and reticle looks perfect to me. There's better out there I know, but for the money and plus lifetime warranty no questions asked I couldn't justify spending 2 or 3x as much

Question for the recce folk out here...

Getting ready to embark on a 16" midlength build.... And in up in the air on the glass..
Either going with a leupy 1.5-5 or a 2.5- 8 illuminated tmr. ....

Barrel will be probably a ballistic advantage heavy stainless barrel.... Wearing an aem brake and m4aem5 collar if it has the right step on the barrel...

Is the 2.5- 8 overkill??

No I don't think it's overkill at all, but you have to decide if the extra 3x zoom(from 5x to 8x is a fairly significant advantage as far as magnification goes)is worth it over a 1-1.5x low end for close range. I can't speak on a 2.5-8, but I do own a razor 1-6 and a viper 2.5-10 FFP. Even though the razor has better glass, having 10x zoom makes identifying targets past 500 a lot easier. But, if I could only have one, I think having the 1x down low with super generous eye relief and eye box is more of an advantage than 10x zoom, definitely inside 500 yards.

Yep. I liked my 2.5-8.

I used a Docter on an offset mount for close range.

I had a 1.5-5 on my 5.56 recce for a long time.  My biggest gripe was that the spr reticle was very thin and at 1.5x it was not as fast as I would have liked.  My buddy got his later with the cmr reticle and it seemed like a big improvement.  But ultimately I didnt feel like the 5x was enough for what I wanted to do.
I had the 2.5-8 on another rifle (the above MWS)  and felt like it wasnt quite enough magnification.

Ultimately I decided that if it's not true 1x that it's not fast enough for me compared to just using offset irons (or red dot)  that now my recce-h has a 2.5-10 on it with offset irons and my other recce has a vortex 1-4 on it with offset irons.  I still wish it had more magnification but im very happy with the 1x on it,  and I can always borrow the scope from the recce-h

Thanks for feedback all. I will say this rifle will be geared to be a do-it-all rifle, and will also probably be a truck gun as well.

I like the idea of the 2.5-8 for stretching it out and punching paper, but also like the 1.5 -5 for quick deployment and getting on target quicker. I did run an old 16" with canted irons, and I liked it, but never ran a doctor yet. Might be a very viable option to bridge the 1x and jump on the glass for magnification.

Or i could go traditional arfcom and get both....

Just waiting on an upper receiver to start this build...

Bartlein barrel turned out by Compass Lake Engineering. The 5.56 CLE Match chamber is super tight w/ MK262. Couldn't get a round to seat without pushing it in with a bolt as well as extract it from the chamber without one.

I own both scopes. 1.5 on my seal recce, and I'm looking to sell it for either another 2.5-8 or NXS 1-4/2.5-10. The 1.5 sucks. It has shitty eye relief. There's a huge gap in mils on the reticle (spr). The BA premium 16" with spr contour is very accurate. I hand load, and I was getting 5 shot .5moa @100yds

How long are they on sale till?? I don't think my timeliness is going to match up with the sale vs. My wallet vs. Getting ready for a night shoot vs. Tearing down my only ar to redo it into an 11.5 instead if a blockii cqbr.

Here's a pic of my rifle and one of me on my last outings. While everyone was at the carnival and rodeo or concert at Frontier Days I was out on the prairie shooting. At this point my recce is done parts wise but it'll get Duracoated at some point once I settle on a camo scheme.
