Seems like it's taylor made for service rifle competition and doesn't have any practical use past that.  The 1-4 or 2.5-10x seem to be better options.

I wish Nightforce would spend that time and money on a 1-6x instead.

From my personal friend at Nightforce, this is correct.  It was purpose built for competition.

I saw that and can't believe the price. I get that it's competition driven but if it was priced well (as a non-variable should be IMO) it could be a good seller. VERY limited market on this one.

That is a pure target/load development setup.  Yes, at 100 yards on 24x the .224" bullet holes are very prominent!

For its intended Recce mission it wears a more appropriate Leupold VX-R 3-9x40mm Patrol in an LT-104 mount.

I think at the $900-$1000 price point these would be very difficult to say no to. Reticle is just about perfect for what its designed for.

Had this setup before. Loved it, miss it. It just looks right. I like the MK4 1.5-5, really wanna trade mine in for a 2.5-8 though.

I almost went 2.5-8, but wanted the lowest low magnification possible, but 5x is plenty for as far as a 14.5 barrel is effective.

S&W Magpul Edition with STR, Ergo grip, and Ballistic Advantage 16" midlength nitrided barrel.  Optic is the new Vortex Razor HD-LH 1.5-8 with the G4 reticle.

This rifle has the other Razor HD-LH I have mounted in the 3-15x42 HSR-4 reticle option.  Noveske N4 with SSA and B5 SOPMOD enhanced.  I'm running the Patriot Ordnance anti-tilt buffer tube, H buffer, and a CLE intermediate gas barrel with an AIM lightweight BCG.  The felt recoil is nearly identical to any of my KAC SR-15 E3 guns.

The rail on the SR-15 Match is an early KAC URXII.  I had to google "Phase 5" as I can't keep up with all the manufacturers these days.

If it's to be period correct, CAR is the only option.  I suppose waffles are around, but the CAR is far more common.

What time frame are we talking? SOPMOD's have been around for a  long time.   2003 for the waffle, as I understand it.  ACE stocks are pretty retro.  I'm not knocking the CAR, it looks freaking cool.    But again, does seem like it would be terribly front heavy.  SOPMOD might even it out a little.  Or heck, even that extra buttpad on yours probably helps the balance.  It's not my gun and wasn't trying to say anything bad about it.  I suppose it came across that way.

Yours is super nice too!!!!!!!  I've always liked that riser ring set up.

Yeah, but the CAR is the one I've seen most on the old SMU guns.  And the weight difference between the CAR and the waffle isn't that much, It's not like adding an A2 or that awful UBR.

and thanks!  I have the integrated KAC riser/300m but went with the standalone riser and lower rings because the 1.4" badgers looked pretty goofy hahaha
