Hey, another SPR-E mount. They seem to be kind of rare...  I have one too.  Great recce build.  Very nice.

I was really torn between the SPR-E and the LT-104.  Really glad I got the extended version.

Pretty sure that's an Armalite FF tube.

Sounds like a lot of trouble for something they could've bought OTS.

Lol and i agree. Maybe sr was in system and armalite wasnt?

Id totally use an armalite tube for a clone. I wasnt discounting your post either. Just saying what larry said.

No, you're good. I didn't bother reading the article; just looked at the pic.

I wouldn't mind knowing what they had to do to make it work with a 5.56.

Got a good deal on an Aero SPR mount during labor day. Has anyone had trouble with 'em? It feels like a solid mount. Is it trustworthy/reliable for hard use?

I like my Recce so much, I'm considering selling my 308 bolt gun. It doesn't do anything this AR doesn't do at the ranges I shoot :o

This might be the first time I've ever seen an "This AR killed this duck" pic.....    When I was scrolling back I first thought it was bobcat with the spots....  Yeah, that scope looks like one of those cheap BB gun scopes you buy for your Daisy.  Which you use one time and figure you can actually see better without it on there.

That looks like an Armalite FF tube, as also observed in pictures of SGM Lamb. Augee has a clone of that rifle, it is basically a fiberglass FF tube with a FSB pocket and holes for punching the FSB pins in/out for installation. I bet that is what you are seeing here, not metal. That handguard retaining ring looks like a KAC or Armalite,  and neither did a plain aluminum FF tube that I know of. You might be construing tape or something for knurling.

If I had the funds free right now I would. Juggling too much, diapers are dolla dolla bills. I've had great luck with the Leatherwood CMR in LaRue lt104 on several builds and will probably head that direction. Swap for NF when funds line up. Still pondering the 2.5-8 leupy

...and I didnt get another cease fire before we had to leave to check the 200 but it looked about like 1.5" spread in my sporting scope. I'm putting the gun at a solid .7-.8 MOA shooter, suppressed with Larue Stealth barrel and Leupold 3-9 VXR.

I used to be down in Carrollton, I know where Denton is. Might have to plan to hit one of the Tiger Valley open shoots in Waco, I think it's like 50 bucks.

With a rig like that, you can give us 5 or 10 shots and still do super well I would imagine.  It's more legit.  Looks like a great shooter though.  What ammo were you using?

I know I need to start shooting 5 shot groups. I have always shot 3 shot groups as long as I can remember... More to conserve ammo before and now it's just habit.

Not sure.  I might borrow the bosses NF 2.5-10x24 he's got on one of our Jack carbines for fun.  ultimately I'll probably end up with a leupy 2.5-8 or 3.5-10

Plans for glass?

Not sure.  I might borrow the bosses NF 2.5-10x24 he's got on one of our Jack carbines for fun.  ultimately I'll probably end up with a leupy 2.5-8 or 3.5-10
That's what I'm waiting on currently.

Way I figure, if I don't like it on the recce, I'm only a barrel swap away from a badass mk12 mod1.

I'll get the rest of the rifle assembled tomorrow and mount the NF and post pictures for show.

Presumably, again, without digging up exact dates, this photograph would predate Armalite's FF tube production, hence why an SR25 handguard would have to be modified to achieve the result, which would effectively be that of a modified Armalite tube.

Armalite also license produced the M4 FF RAS Long, again, presumably, for military use, not commercial sales; and their modern "M-15" railed handguard bears a more than superficial resemblance to the M4 FF RAS, though they're far from identical.

These kinds of modifications were also done with what appear to be Bushmaster and/or Olympic aluminum FF tubes as well.

With all that being said - the idea of a "sniper" or "precision" M16 carbine variant is not one of those things that you can easily "pin down" to one organization to the extent that you can say that someone "originated" it, the "need" is somewhat intuitive, and precision M16 variants have been being developed pretty much since the M16 existed, and even the first AR15 variant had an optional scope.
