We just had a cutaway made as a display so people can see what's going on inside of a Windham Weaponry WW-15. We'll be taking this to the NRA show in St. Louis. Anyone that is coming to say hello to us, you can handle it there. It's pretty interesting to see how everything functions together inside.
First up, this is how the carrier looks inside and all of it's various parts: 
The hot gasses coming through the gas tube shown here are blown down into the carrier through the gas key that the tube is inside of. This pushes the carrier back which rotates the bolt to unlock it out of battery. The carrier continues on it's backward motion until it can't go any farther and the empty shell is ejected through the ejection port. 
This is where the gas port in the barrel connects with the gas port in the gas block, which then feeds into the gas tube: 
Various positions of the fire control group. Here it is shown cocked, on safe, with the bolt carrier locked to the rear. The bottom window shows where the sear engagement is. Note that there is no engagement here because the carrier is locked to the rear. This pushes the hammer down (back) a little farther than when it's cocked with the carrier forward. The window above that shows the disconnector and where it engages the hook on the hammer:

Very cool! I don't know of anything more useful for learning how a particular model of gun works. It's too bad they're so expensive. The cost is understandable, especially when you consider the extra work that goes into the manufacturing however it's definitely a barrier for someone like me who would like to use a cutaway to reinforce what I've learned through books and experience. Ultimately, I'd like to do some gunsmithing on the side as a way to pay for my addiction. Yes, it's true. I'm addicted to filling my gun safe!

The cut-away is a very good visual aid to anyone wanting to better understand what goes on inside the weapon. A big thanks to Windham for posting it.  |

It would be just my luck to get to 'play' with it and have that spring release from the tube and take a ride across the room.
