An AR newbie looking at getting either the MPC or HBC. What's the difference between the standard M4 barrel and the heavy barrel? Aesthetics? Practical?

Thanks.

This is what the M4 barrel on the MPC looks like:

This is what the heavy barrel on the HBC looks like:

It's really a matter of personal preference. They balance differently and obviously the HBC has a heavier overall wieght because of the extra steel. The M4 barrel seems to be the most popular and it's what I prefer personally. Perhaps some others will weigh in with their opinions to help you select. The best thing is to go to a gun store that has one of each and shoulder them both and see which one feels best to you

I just purchased the HBC three weeks ago (my 1st AR-15) and I love it!
I suppose it is just a personal choice for me, but I liked the straighter barrel
and the little bit of extra weight.

It is a little heavier but not extremely heavy.
It also shoots like a charm.

I pushed about 300 rds through it for the 1st time a week ago.
I used old ammo I had carried in my old Mini14 and it was kinda gummy
and several brands all mix matched. Not one jam the whole time and it is
very accurate right outta the case, and I'm a lousy shot!

I agree, go to a dealer, pick up one of each and judge for yourself.
Either way, it will be hard to turn down a Windham!

Thanks for that report Eric. Unfortunately none of the local stores have any of them in stock so I can't compare. But from everything I've read, it sounds like the MPC is the right one for me, especially since I may be adding stuff to the foregrip.

I don't think you will be dissappointed with that configuration. It is very popular.
