I understand where you are coming from. Instead of having to pay the 8% you will pay a transfer fee. View Quote True but I always had that with the out of state sale and made up for the transfer by usually getting a lower listed price and saving 8% on the deal to boot. What is going to hard to reconcile is why I would elect to pay the 8% tax on a local dealer sale who is then going to F3 the can to another dealer down the street, negating the whole purpose of saving a F3 transfer. I was curious so I went and poked around on your website and the closest "powered dealer" (Capitol Armory) site as well. The first 5.56 silencer listed on Capitols site is the AAC 556-SD for $540. Checking your site if I buy it from SS via Capitol Armory it costs me $551 ($11 dollars more). Same deal for the first 22LR suppressor listed on the SS site. SS price for a Sparrow via Capitol for $416 vs. a Sparrow direct from Capitol for $385. Now normally I wouldn't bat an eye over $10 to $30 . I would just buy it from SS because of the convenience and I like you guys. However, why would I agree pay more to buy the exact can from SS plus add a 30 to 60 F3 wait for you to ship it to the exact same dealer who is selling it for cheaper on his own website off his own inventory...which means I can walk out the door with my paperwork today. Even if it was the other way around (as I assume there are probably some where SS may be cheaper) I still wouldn't want to wait 30 to 60 days to save 10 to $30 if the SS price was cheaper. If I want to wait on a F3 I might as well buy a Sparrow off GB for $345 which is $71 cheaper than your listed price of $416, I also save $35 in sales tax which bring the total difference to $100+. Back out the $50 local transfer fee and I am still coming out ahead by $50+. Same deal here, normally I would just buy a Sparrow from SS and factor in the convenience is worth 50 bucks. But now with the new distributor model, I would probably just give Capitol a shot or buy off GB and transfer it in State. |

Wow. I was just getting ready to buy another can or two this week and was waffling between Capitol and Silencer Shop. Seeing as Silencer Shop has yet to add my local SOT, it'll probably be Capitol. I've purchased 12 cans from Silencer Shop in the last year and had them all run through the same dealer and I know I'm not the only person that SS has transferred cans to Hillside for. My nearest "powered by" dealer is 35 miles away in a town I don't believe I've ever been to. My preferred dealer is 20-ish. Not that big of a deal, but I am very happy with my dealer and don't want to run the transfer through some random shop in a town I don't go to. Plus, it looks like they are just bundling the transfer price into the purchase price of the can. I've yet to find a suppressor that costs less than it did a couple days ago. Not to mention the problems I had with my large Silencer Shop Direct purchase. I went with them before because the price was good and everybody said their CS was excellent. I was willing to give them another shot after the issues I had with them as it wasn't all their fault, but now with this crap I think I'll go somewhere else and see how this all plays out. Best of luck SS. I hope it works for you. ETA - to update, after looking around a bit, some of the cans are lower and some are higher than before. The higher cans are Griffon and "luckily" for me those are what I was planning to buy.... I really do hope it works out for you but it sure seems like you are making it harder for your existing customers (especially Texans). View Quote This, I've purchased 11 cans through Silencer Shop over the past 14 or so months (all of my cans) and was previously very pleased, good prices and no doubt SS gets right to form 3s. However this new business model has completely turned me off, suppressors I'd planned on purchasing from SS over the next couple of weeks went up around $100 per can along with several other suppressors going up in price. My FFL in Miami recommended Silencer Shop to me, they do transfers almost exclusively and are not listed in your buy it now or powered buy or whatever gimmicky name it is called (kinda seems like a betrayal to my FFL). I do however see a few shops listed that if they were on fire that I I wouldn't piss on to put them out. I wasn't even really looking at other vendors, but assuming the new business model stays the same, then I will be shopping elsewhere exclusively. I wish you folks the best of luck, but I felt the need to explain why I am not happy with the changes and likely not returning as a customer (this coming from someone who had previously defended Silencer Shop on the forums). |

Hope you figure it out quicker than he did. eta fixed language Form 3's take longer than 2 weeks but we submit the form 4 after 2 weeks so it only adds 2 weeks to the time. Prices dropped on items an went up on others as explained earlier in this thread. Good luck with your new business model, I mean that sincerely, I do not think it will work, but I do not want see you fail either. Certainly seems like you have an axe to grind. M3 never picked up the damn phone when he was retail only and still doesn't now that he is "wholesale". How that guy is still relevant is a mystery to me. Like the man said, it only adds 2 weeks for TX customers if they chose to use the new model. If they don't there are 1000+ SOT Holders in the state. The only thing that they will miss out on if they use the local dealer option powered by Silencer shop is not driving to Austin to fill out their paperwork or waiting the additional 3 weeks to have it mailed to them. This is really just my uneducated speculation, but I'm wondering if this change was a result of pressure from within the industry. I don't know where SS gets their inventory (manufacturer or a higher distributor). I also don't know what agreements have been made with other retailers. I'm just thinking this sounds a lot like them getting pressured to get out of the direct sales game in order to maintain getting the distributor or wholesale pricing they procure at.
Perhaps they knew it would cost them some TX customers but it was a calculated loss to maintain the rest of their volume outside of TX. This is probably completely unfounded but it's just my .02. |

I guess I sort of understand it. SS has opened their inventory to other dealers, and instead of giving all SSD dealers the same $70 fee, they let them set their own price schedule. My local FFL charges $25/ea for NFA transfers. Perhaps SS thought all their SSD FFLs would tighten their margins, and we, the consumers would benefit? But this all only works if the SSD FFLs aren't competing against the house. I have 2 cans pending now, via SSD, and my local FFL cant touch them for price. I wonder how many times people have bought elsewhere, online, and been buying cans from SS's inventory?

Just to verify; the "powered by" price includes SS handling the form 4, but not the cost of the stamp itself, right? You still need to add the $205 for the form 4 to the order? A can that I've been thinking about comes up at $680 on the grid view, but as soon as I click on details and it registers my address the price jumps to $868, which seems to be the new standard price since it is the same for every FFL within 350 miles. I understand that the dealer has the option to go in and adjust pricing, but based on past retail experience I doubt that most will, or at least they won't be that competitive. So, the purchase I was close to making at $730 delivered and transferred would now be $138 more, and that's if the dealer doesn't also try to charge me tax. I'm not even a TX resident but I see prices have gone up significantly so now the following would happen: 1. I'd pay more than other dealers are offering the same product for to stay with silencershop. 2. Tell my FFL who is one of the few decent FFLs in South Florida to go kick rocks because Silencer Shop (whom my FFL recommended) told them (FFL) to pound sand by not being part of their network. 3. Apparently I'd now pay sales tax. I'm pretty sure this move had nothing to do with benefiting the consumer or loyal customers. I'm also sure they see this working out for them somehow, perhaps it will and perhaps it won't but In the blink of an eye many of us lost our no brainier go to source for suppressors and while there are other good dealers out there, this is a blow to the 2a community. Rant over Everyone is looking at what went up in price but about 50% stayed the same or went down. We are more than happy to work with all FFL's have them reach out to us or send us and email and we will call them. No you don't pay sales tax. |

Good on Silencer Shop for addressing everyone's comments and questions. Not every company would do that. Still not excited about the decision, but it's good that you guys are fielding the questions. I still don't understand how they can file a Form 4 before the Form 3 has been approved since that makes the info on the Form 4 technically inaccurate at the time of submission. Maybe they got permission from the ATF for the approach, but who's to say ATF won't change their mind as they're wont to do? View Quote The form 3 is long gone before the auditor even picks up the form 4. So the approval for the form 3 is in the system before the form 4 gets reviewed. |

Exactly. SS saying it is only going to take an additional 2 weeks is laughable. At some point the ATF is more than likely going to put the hammer down on the practice of submitting form 4s before the form 3 is approved. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

My first can from you guys just arrived last month and I couldn't have been happier with the process. I can't see any upside for me the consumer with your new model. If you used Silencer Shop direct then it is the same process but you save $70. I'm a Texas resident. Then the only difference is that you will pick it up from an FFL closer to you. If you had it mailed before then you know that is a 2 week process and thus would be the same time as the form 3 transfer. |

And you still have another very good dealer to work with, Capitol Armory. It's like TX residents think SS was their only option... View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I guess I sort of understand it. SS has opened their inventory to other dealers, and instead of giving all SSD dealers the same $70 fee, they let them set their own price schedule. My local FFL charges $25/ea for NFA transfers. Perhaps SS thought all their SSD FFLs would tighten their margins, and we, the consumers would benefit? But this all only works if the SSD FFLs aren't competing against the house. I have 2 cans pending now, via SSD, and my local FFL cant touch them for price. I'm going to contact my FFL to contact SS, they are great people and have always supported SS. I stand corrected on the sales tax, other posts made it confusing the way it works. |

Super. My point, in a Silencer Shop thread in the Silencer Shop industry forum, is that their new business model doesn't give me, a Texas resident, any reason to continue to use them. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I would say give the new model a chance to work if it doesn't then you could use another FFL for future purchases. |

I'm confused about the sales tax.
I'm out of state and have a Powered By dealer near me. If I buy a suppressor at whatever price he has listed, are the taxes included in the online price? If I am technically buying it from him but out of your inventory he owes sales tax, which means I owe sales tax. Will he charge me when I go to pick it up or is it included in the online price? |

View Quote No you will not pay sales tax. He is an affiliate of ours so tax is not required. You could look at the back end it like this. You buy the silencer from us and then we "sell" it to the FFL. So they are basically selling from our inventory without stocking it. |

Sales tax would come into play when you file taxes next year and you have the opportunity to claim items bought online.
(This is different than the way it was originally explained to me...so I know at least a couple of the mentions of paying sales tax instead of transfer fee fall on my shoulders. Sorry.) |

So after reading this thread and getting the main idea, you just tenderly bent over and butt fucked without lube your largest consumer base, Texas.
I don't have one of your one click buy down distributors within a couple hundred miles that I've heard of or have even heard of people using. I was willing to drive from East Texas to Austin without hesitation to pick my can up just so I could meet some of yall and maybe buy some more stuff from your store front and have my can now. Guess not... Form 3 times like someone else said is not an additional two weeks. It's more like a month or more. |

This sucks for Texas residents. I bought from SS because it was stupid easy. I'll simply shift my business to Capitol Armory.
You really should allow Texas residents to buy direct. |
