Of course I could use a picatinny type. Too generic and off the shelf for my taste.
I've got the MI Gen2 SS hand-guard. Mounting option modularity aren't much when it comes to a female QD slingmount on for the ride.
After purchasing
many different sling mounts for trial and error, the first slingmount, the IWC Micro, which was my first purchase and plan, sat on the side lines. I'd determined it not usable.
Then a light come one with an idea. Why not drill through the top of the picatinny?
The micro fits very nicely inside the rail in the gas tube slot, and clearance won't be an issue when I slide the hand-guard over the gas block.
I called a local gunsmith that has done work for me in the past. No problem, he said bring it on over.
The plan is to bore a 1/2" hole 90 degrees through the picatinny, then end mill a recess slightly larger diameter than the hole, and inwards for the installation of the snap-ring.
It's nice that IWC includes the necessary hex threaded screws for both metal and plastic.
I'm off to see the gunsmith
Before
After - My plan turned out well. Minimum space, low profile, full rotation, quiet. I'm very pleased with the idea
Does this application work for you? YMMV
