For those who have received their Bravo Rifles, what version did you get, and what do you think?
|
|
[#1]
Yes. I picked it up today,14.5 pinned version. I only bought it for the upper. The lower doesn't have the Northern Guard markings or maple leaf. Lower looks like it's almost billet compared to the lower I'm using from an Alpha rifle. Finish on lower is shit, almost looks painted! I had a buyer for the lower but no Canadian markings so.... off to be cerakoted FDE. I pulled the battle rail off & installed a V-Tac 13" rail. I noticed the screws for the gas block were staked along with the bolt carrier being nicely staked! Battle Axe stock is ugly as sin but comfortable & it grows on you. It's no Daniel Defense M4 but for 599.00 I didn't expect it to be. I should've bought more to sit on!

From the pics I saw in the GD there are some pretty rough machining marks on a lot of the lowers.

It appeared on all Troy w/ Canadian lowers that I've seen so far including mine and my friends.
Some lowers have more machining marks than others but they all have some sort of rough machining marks. Also, some rifles have better staked gas key and some have fairly weak staking job. My biggest complaint is the trigger... it's horrible. However, for $599? you can't beat the deal. Quoted:
I seen that too. I'm wondering if that's the norm, or a few that slipped by. I also wonder what Troy will do to fix the situation. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

But it wasn't advertised as factory seconds, if it was I would have passed

For 599.00 I'm more than happy for what I got! I'm sure they were overwhelmed with orders & to honor the orders they filled them with what they had on hand. I applaud Troy for that! I wasn't expecting a DD M4 for 599.00 & neither should anyone else. On my lower there are bare spots with no finish but no dents, scratches or gouges. I wanted the 14.5 upper, try buildind a railed 14.5 upper for less than 599.00.

No one would have brought the rifles if they were advertised as having lowers with bare spots on the finish...not to mention the piss poor milling. I could have grabbed a different AR made right for another $50. I gave Troy a chance....I hope I dont regret it |

The lower is billet and that's why you see some machining marks.
At first, I was mad about the milling marks, etc but the quality of this rifle is exceptional for what I paid for. I took it to a range for quick test and it's extremely accurate and been flawless. All action seems smooth and parts are very well made. Just wait until you pick up yours and judge it for yourself. It looks actually better in person and shoots great. Quoted:

I will be picking my rifle up today after work.
I was contacted by Troy a few days before it shipped, and they informed me that they were out of the Canadian roll-marked receivers. They asked me instead if it would be acceptable if they just used one of their standard Troy roll-marked receivers, and I said that would be fine. I'm interested to see what it looks like compared to the "Northern Guard" ones. |

Received mine today and refused to take possession. Like some have already said my lowers do appear to be blemished. I also ordered mine the day the sale was posted and paid for them the following Monday morning when they opened. I was not told anything about the Maple leaf lowers being sold out and being substituted for the standard Troy lowers when I spoke to the lady taking my CC. I actually had no correspondence with them for over 2 weeks. I tried calling since my CC was never charged, but always got a busy tone. I finally emailed them Friday Dec 5. When I Monday evening rolled around and I still had not heard anything I called my ff. to see if they had heard from Troy and was told they spoke to them on Friday. A few minutes later I get a UPS tracking email from Troy. The only email I had got since the automated one received when I ordered. Then I get an invoice and CC copy email a little later. When I went to pick them all were standard troy lowers. I immediately called Troy. I spoke to a very nice and apologetic lady named Molly. She told me to take a pic of the rail that was shorter than advertised and email it to her. She also told me they sold out of the Canadian over runs in minutes, and she was not sure what the lowers were, i.e. billet or forged, but she thought they were billet. Yikes. more trouble than worth. Anyone else?

I have two other billet upper and lowers, that have none of these machining marks. Is this common with other companies billet parts?

This thing is fucking BEAUTIFUL. If there are milling marks, they aren't noticeable. Fit and finish is excellent, there are no blemishes of any sort on the finish. The trigger is kind of heavy, but has a super clean take-up and break. |

I received an email stating the Canadian rifles were sold out. I called on 12/3 and requested an Alpha version. So then Troy shipped me a Canadian Bravo railed rifle. WTF? The receiver has the machine marks. I also refused the transfer from my FFL, Im not sure what to do now. Im hoping Troys customer service will take care of it. |

[#18]
I spoke to customer service yesterday and sent a pic and email as requested. I was told a gunsmith would call me first thing in the morning??? Of course that did not happen, nor did I get an email. I waited til 3pm EST. and called. When the receptionist answered I asked for the lady I spoke to by name and was told she was in a meeting. So I asked for a gunsmith. I was hung up on so I called and again and she apologized and said she would transfer me again. The gunsmith I spoke to was knowledgeable about the rifles and actually offered me a longer rail and some other items when I told him I planned on returning the 14.5. I accepted and took possession of the rifles. About 15 min later he called back and said they were out of the 13in Bravo rails and offered me an Alpha instead, with an rail accessory pack added. As I do not have any safe queens and actual function was not a problem, I felt they made a good effort to right a mistake. I really didn't want a maple leaf anyway, it was just what I thought I was getting. Overall ask for a gunsmith. He took care of the problem in like 5 min. instead of 20 phone calls and emails to customer service!

For you folks that got Non-Canadian lowers, did your invoice say they were Canadian overruns but they arrived without the flags, or did the invoice not call them Canadian?
I'm just crossing my fingers. Not holding out any real hope. |

I picked up mine yesterday. It has the standard Troy lower, no Canadian flag and no machining marks. Mine is the 14.5 version and has an 11 inch quad rail. The stock isn't quite as fugly in person, but I have a spare MOE that will be going on it. About the only thing I don't like is that Troy muzzle brake with the jagged leading edge.

I just completely broke mine down tonight and cleaned it for the first time (haven't fired it yet), and I have to say that this is absolutely a beautiful gun. I did notice some VERY subtle "machining marks" around the safety selector, but you really have to go over the gun with a fine tooth comb to notice it at all. If subtle marks like that are a deal breaker for you on a rifle that cost $599, maybe you're too picky to have hobbies in the first place. Other than that, this is easily the finest rifle I own. (I do have a S&W M&P15 and an Adams Arms Mid-Length Gas Piston) A couple of things caught my eye: A) The feed ramp section / the star-shaped crown (I don't know if that's the right terminology) of the chamber are absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I can seriously see my reflection in them, they are amazing, and B) The trigger group is really nice. It is super clean and I really like the trigger. A little bit of uptake, and then a super clean and crisp trigger pull (albeit substantially heavier of a trigger pull than some of my other rifles). I am in love with this gun. Part of me wishes that I'd gotten the Alpha rail with the sight, but the other part of me is glad that I received such a fine specimen after reading about other's experiences. I bought Magpul PRO sights as well as some rail covers for it earlier today. I still need to take pictures and post them for you guys. |

When you hold your rifle by the grip, pull back the charging lever and let it go, do you hear a really loud "DING!" ? It reminds me of an M1 Garand ejecting the clip When you have your hand on the fore-end though, it prevents the sound (I'm assuming it's the sound of the bolt slamming shut resonating inside of the quad rail) |

As ugly as they are, I got the standard battle axe stock. Thought I would just change it to the MFT minimalist, but Im actually starting to like the stock. In pics it looks bigger than it actually is if that makes sense. This is my first 14.5 Pinned and welded so Im not sure how they usually do it, but it is clearly welded on the side. I guest this is because the flat side for wrench is on the side and was easier to drill out? I was thinking it would be done on the bottom to be less visible.

I bought 1 with 14.5 and a quad rail. After receiving it, I immediately went back and ordered another. This time a 16" version. Unfortunately, they didn't have Northern Guard lowers anymore. However, I did get the Alpha rail with a front sight (requested when ordered).
Trigger is mil spec without mushiness. Pretty crist on both rifles. I like how lowers are machined. Much cleaner looking than PSA. Lower parts kit is also better finished than PSA. ~500 rounds through the first one and about 200 through the 2nd one. No failures. 2 MOA or better. For $600 this was a steal. Definitely the best deal I got this holiday season; with crappy Black Friday promotions this was a highlight. |

Shipped promptly, with an invoice stating specifically it was a Canadian marked lower. Got it, nope, regular Bravo lower. Machine marks pronounced, but as this is a duty rifle, not a safe queen, and won't affect performance, I wasn't too pissed. I had a few email exchanges, and they never addressed my issue with the rollmark change, but did acknowledge the machining mark issue. At no time during the process was I advised I could exchange for an Alpha rail. As a consolation, they are sending me a folding front and rear sight. Overall impressions, light, well balanced, shoddy QC on machining, so-so customer service, "rattly" fitment of upper/lower/rail, stock not as hideous in person as it looks in a picture, I like the storage in it, as well as the QD points in the stock, and two places on the rail, excellent price point. I am going to tear it down, do a complete armorer's inspection, and accurize it to the best of my ability. First and only time I will deal with Troy. I wasn't aware he is a MA State Trooper and a retired Secuirty Forces Chief Master Sergeant. I think my buddy was in the same Guard unit with him. |
