Companies have MAP so that discount companies can't buy things on 90 day terms, then sell everything dirt cheap and kill the reputation of manufacturer. In the mean time the clown company makes $50 a gun Xs the 100 they bought, and then moves on to the next company when they can no longer buy from that manufacturer.
Most MFGs have a tier structure, so the more a company buys, the better price they get. The same gun at one store selling for $1300 might get a local gun store $100 profit. The company that buys 100 of the same weapon is obviously going to be making more, but that doesn't change the actual value of the item.
This is why local store are going out of business.
