Just picked up the "Book of the AR-15" 2015 Daniel Defense Edition, and it has the prototype DD 7.62 rifle being tested. Haven't had time to read the article yet, but it looks nice. There is also an article showing a camo 7.62 Ambush rifle. Been wanting a long distance rifle, so I might have just found it.

Well, this will cost me money. I asked on here a while ago if there were plans for this rifle and was told no. Secret keepers!

I would ASSUME it would be in the area of a Armalite or high end DPMS. Which probably means it will cost more.

I hope they have more than just keymod as an available rail option since it's proprietary; their 5.56 line would seem to indicate that this is within the realm of possibility.
|
|

I hope there is other rail options other then keymod. But I'm in for one
The lower also looks billet |

I read the article in Wally World today, I like what I read. I can't wait.

Ole Joe is being pretty quiet...
must be loading the truck... |

Folks,
I am glad that everyone is excited. The only information available on the 7.62 is what you'll read in the current edition of the "Book of the AR-15, Daniel Defense Edition". |

I guess you guys aren't releasing this at SHOT. View Quote Must not be ready for prime time, .308 AR's add several more layers of complexity to build right. I'm looking forward to the DD .308 myself, but I'd rather have it released when it's ready and not released early just to talk about it at a SHOW, kudos to DD a for recognizing this. |
|
"Not ready yet," I'm told by a friend on the floor who stopped by the DD booth.
|
|
|
|
I talked to Marty about this briefly at SHOT and his words were more along the lines of this:
It's in the catalog to show people we're working on it. But it's not in the booth and we're not talking about selling it yet because it isn't ready to sell. Once it's ready you'll see the rifle at shows and you'll hear all the info you need to buy one. We don't want to pretend that it's ready to sell and then make people wait 6, 9, 12 or more months for it to actually go to retail like we've all seen with other product announcements at shows like SHOT. Good for them. Maybe they're just tipping their hand and priming the market to generate buzz & interest, but I know we've all had "new product excitement" fade once summer or fall rolls around and said new thing isn't on the shelf, and isn't possibly even close to ready. |
|
I will def be on the list for one of these!! Count me in for adding to ANY buzz&interest that DD needs to make this happen....QUICK!!

I expected DD to come out with this rifle this year or next, based upon what I saw at the NRA convention this past April in Indy. They made a huge investment into their CHF barrel production and to increase production capacity of 5.56, 6.8 and 300 blackout rifles. A 308 rifle only makes sense.
As a consumer, I want to see the following, because I believe DD has the ability to produce an AR-10 variant that will supersede or meet anything made by Larue or Knights: 1. Barrels: 16" chrome lined cold hammer forged barrels and 18-20" stainless steel CHF barrels for target variants 2. Gas system: They need to do what Knight's did and go with a proprietary gas port diameter and gas tube length to ensure appropriate operation when shooting suppressed vs unsuppressed. Either that or they need to offer adjustable gas blocks like Larue does. AR-10s are different animals from 5.56 NATO rifles with carbine or mid-length gas systems, and they know that. 3. Buffer tube: Because of the above, I am thinking they will need their own proprietary length buffer tube and buffer weight, or at least develop something to match up well with their gas system. The key being it has to run suppressed. 4. Magwell: Take a note from Wilson and make sure the magwell is flared to accept all variants of AR-10 magazines (the new Lancer mags in particular) Again, I love DD. I think they can hit a home run with their .308 AR-10 variants, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out. I was seriously considering a Wilson Combat 308 rifle this spring, but I think I will wait to see what DD has to offer. The only reason I won't buy a Knight's APC is because I can't bring myself to spend $4.5-5k on an AR-10 variant. |

I want to want DD to make .308 rifles but I just have no interest in this. The whole being proprietary thing turns me off. Not to mention it will be expensive as hell.
I'm a AR builder. I want to build my own rifles for the thrill of doing it and being able to setup the rifle the way I want it. Sad to stay it but DPMS is pretty much he standard in build it yourself AR-10's. Not that I would use DPMS parts, just the DPMS pattern design. If I wanted to do another proprietary .308, it would be a SCAR 17S. |
|
So far my DPMS G2 patterns have been really promising. I would be interested to know if DD or other manufacturers are considering using the platform.
|
|
I really want to agree with the "buildable" sentiment, but I'd also rather have a reliable proprietary rifle than a build it yourself turd... ie DPMS and PSA. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a PSA basher, but initial quality reports are that they really missed the mark with their ar-10 line. However it's built, I'd count on DD to get it right.

View Quote Judging from the photos in the magazine, I don't know how much building a person would really need to do. It comes fully ambidextrous, with a rail installed. Swap parts that are easy to do for personal preference and call it a day. |
|
Exactly. You don't usually buy a Daniel Defense to radically alter. You swap triggers, add optics, swap grips, etc... but you dont typically buy them to change the setup completely. If your into piece mill builds you usually start with blank slate, not start with a DD and then go changing everything.

I like everything on it except for the furniture and handguard. Switching out the grip and stock is no biggie, but this being a DD rifle I doubt anyone else would make handguards for it. That's why I would like to see a non Keymod version offered.

Mr. Marler, I hope you are taking note.
M-Lok, Keymod and 1913 options would be awesome. |

I like it a lot the way it it stands now.
Any thought on suppressor compatability? |

I personally see no problem with a key mod rail. Very comfortable for grip as apposed to the classic cheese graders. You can still attach any number of accessories. To be honest, what more do you need on a ar 10 aside from good optics and a bipod? I'm just struggling here with a price. I keep passing on good deals because I want this rifle. However this not knowing a price is killing me. I love my DDM4V11, but I really have no desire to use anything chambered in 5.56 anymore. Love Daniel Defense quality, but this wait... In the meantime, I believe I'll be selling my DDM4V11, ACOG combination.

Mr. Marler what is the rough expected timeframe for these? Can we expect a somewhat release at the NRA Show later this year?

Come on throw us a bone. I've been itching to get a .308 AR, been looking at the new armalite tacticals and dpms g2s but i would really like a Daniel Defense MK762.

Guys,
I know everyone is excited about this rifle. Trust me, I am too! But the last thing we want to do is announce a release date and miss it due to unforeseeable circumstances. We'd rather wait until we have them built and ready to ship before we make that announcement. We certainly don't want to over promise and under deliver. S/F Joe |
