I have aV7 with the standard 12" Modular Float Rail. Love the look, especially the feel.
Finally got 'summer' here in Minnesota and the rail gets almost too hot to handle while shooting. Other than replacing, which I don't want to, has anyone come up with any type of cover or heat guard? |

How many rounds over what period of time had you gone through before noticing it was getting uncomfortable?

Just like most handguards on the market, the MFR is conducts heat. If it's already hot outside, the tube will heat up quicker. The slots in the MFR are designed to vent heat and aid in cooling. Being that there we don't have an insulation barrier or proprietary covers for the MFR, we recommend wearing gloves to protect your hand. I've seen a product from Manta Rails designed to work on tubular handguards and was under the impression that they were to be available for purchase this past April, however, I can't seem to find them for sale anywhere. I saw one in person at SHOT Show and feel it will be a popular product for our v7 series once it's available.

Quoted: OK, sorry But there must be a better way Does anyone make a heat cover for it? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Gloves? Funny Not meant to be funny. OK, sorry But there must be a better way Does anyone make a heat cover for it? One option is buying a suppressor cover and wrapping that around your V7, but it will be bulky.

I have an old pair of fingerless weight lifting gloves I'll try. Love the rifle, not going to sell it because of that. |

I have a vertical grip and have had no heat issues at all. Just a thought.

My MFR gets very warm too as I don't use a vertical grip. I should have done more research before I bought this style. I was looking for something different/lightweight as I didn't want/need quad rails.
I also don't want to wear gloves in the middle of summer on the range. It does cool off quickly but I can't shoot more than a mag or two before I have to let it sit. I'm thinking I'm going to swap these out for some of the new BCM Key-Mod rails and put some covers on that. I'll retain the lightweight build I wanted and keep my hands from getting hot. |

I had taken off the 3 - 3” Modular Picatinny Rail sections that it came with. I like the clean look better, don't need a light in case the boggy man comes thru the door. I have a shotgun and a couple of .45's for that.
I attached the 3 sections at a point where my hand holds the rail. 1 underneath and 2 just forward on the sides. I have them positioned where it would appear my hand and fingers would be located on the rail. Have not had a chance to try this out. May and may not work. But that's American ingenuity. Look at something and see if it might work. |

Tried it and it felt to awkward for me. Another idea is just to wrap paracord where your grip the rail as that imo is more comfortable as I have done that as well. That's not a bad idea either. I located the 3 rail sections just where my hand guides the rifle so there is not a whole lot of grip. I use a bench rest for target shooting. I'm almost sure the rails will conduct heat but besides feeling awkward, did it make any difference? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Transition to a mag/magwell grip once you can't handle the heat anymore.

I've got Larue index clips on the three rail sections as well as the top rail. IWC handstop behind the 6 oclock rail. Haven't shot it yet . Will update.
Thinking about one more rail section at the 6 as this setup is slightly akward. If I go this route,I might snag a Larue handstop so everything lines up better. |

Thanks! You can see now why I'm thinking about another rail at the 6 'oclock and a Larue handstop. Get things more inline. It's not terrible, just feels a little off obviously. |

We've just added our shotgun inspired foregrip to our website. This foregrip is same as the one that we sell on our Ambush Firearms rifles. It's made from an injected molded polymer and has texturing similar to that of an A2 pistol Grip. It attaches in the same was as the picatinny rail sections do. Very ergonomic and a great for providing an insulative barrier between your support hand and the forend. See it HERE

I have a V7 and I have to say, it' s just fantastic. Here in Canada, I don't have the problem of the rail getting hot because in Canada we are limited to magazines pinned to 5 rounds.

Quoted: I got a keymod kit from MI to add the panel in front of the gripstop. Keymod hardware is just wide enough to bind it in. Had to dremel off the "feet" for the keymod bit. Also had to drill a new hole in the gripstop so I thoroughly got my BubbaGun on, but Im happy with it. http://i.imgur.com/4dzJLtJ.jpg View Quote Keymod accessories save the day.
