I have that upper. 606 rounds fired through it to date. The only problem encountered was when I used some of my reloads in which I had screwed down the sizing die too much and got a some rounds with slightly too short of headspace that went too far forward in the chamber for ignition. I now use a 300BLK case gage to set the sizing die properly; no problems with properly sized brass. No problems shooting the slightly too short headspace rounds in the other 300 BLK uppers/rifles, but all of my reloads will now be of correct headspace.
I monitor all my 300BLK barrels for wear using throat erosion gages. The 10.3" DD barrel only shows the slightest wear so far, in fact for the first 490 rounds I couldn't detect any wear. Good barrel steel + nitriding will equal a long barrel life when shot at mild rates of fire.
While my DD 16" 300BLK barrel upper is the most accurate of my 8 300BLK uppers/rifles (8 deer and 1 coyote with it so far), my DD 10.3" upper is of average accuracy. By "average", I do not mean to imply it is inaccurate, in fact it will be used for a hog hunting trip to Georgia this year. I've only shot supersonic ammo out of the DD short upper.
What all 300BLK uppers do you have? How do they all compare?
DD 16" upper 4150 steel chf nitrided -1 (my GO-TO for deer hunting)
DD 10.3" upper 4150 steel chf nitrided - 2 1/2
Remington M700 plain (probably 4140 steel) - 4 (its accuracy has been improving, the more I shoot it and may be up to a 3 or 3 1/2 now) (its bore is also wearing the fastest of all mine...twice as fast as any other 4140 barrel I have)
Handi Rifle plain (probably 4140 steel) -3 (1,945 rounds fired through it)
Delta Co Arms 10.3" upper plain 4140 steel hand lapped -1 1/2 (I really enjoy this upper and am up to 3,956 rounds fired through it, and it shoots a variety of loads accurately)
PSA 8" upper 4150 steel chf chrome lined - 2 1/2 (my lightweight upper; I can cut off the gas and shoot it manually operated with its side charger upper for more quiet when suppressed)
Core15 9.5" upper stainless -2 (my GO-TO for suppressed hog hunting, but I've yet to get a shot at one!)
Remington Micro7 plain (probably 4140 steel) nitrided -3
I will rate them accuracy-wise, with "1" being the best, followed by "2", followed by "3", followed by "4". Note: NONE of them are inaccurate, and some of the accuracy or lack thereof may be my shooting ability. For example: I find it harder for me to shoot the Micro7 consistently...I think it's the stock shape, yet I've gotten some great groups and didn't feel handicapped taking it deer hunting (3 shots = 3 deer taken).
If rated for FUN, the Handi Rifle wins. Lightweight, easy to clean, not expensive, can fire all sorts of loads through it that wouldn't function a semi-auto rifle, and super quiet suppressed using reloads with pistol powders to further cut down on the noise.
