So I want to replace my forend on my 590A1. The slide on my shotgun is like the top one in this pic. When I measure it to the bottom ring it measures exactly 6 15/16ths.
On the website pic it states that part # 4865 is for the 6 15/16ths tube but the text says 6 5/8ths.......... If I order this is it going to be too short for my tube?
I've also read numerous folks say that these fit super tight. best way to get them installed is to heat up the rail like on th dash of your car and freeze the slide tube for a couple hours. |

Yes, the information is conflicting, I will try to make it better on our new web store which will come online in a few weeks hopefully.
I will also try and pin a sizing and fitting post at the top of this board. I am no expert on the Mossberg. We make two sizes. The shorter is the 4865-SHORT. I first look at the sizing of the short size. If the action slide is too long for the short then I go to the 4865. In your case I would think the 4865 is the one you need. Let me check on this on Monday. The action slide on the top in your pic looks wrong. Notice the tape shows 8 inches, I think the silver arrow on the right end should be pushed back to the left. As to the issue of it fitting tight, yes that is true, to the point sometimes that it will not fit. It is a hard part to fit with a tube design. The factory action slide tube has a feature that is hard to overcome. Mossberg puts dimples in the tube that distorts the OD. The inner points of the dimples ride on the magazine tube. On the outside of the action slide you are left with a distorted OD. It I was going to fit one of these I would remove some of this distortion with a file or high speed die grinder with sanding disk. Other tools would be a bench top belt sander or bench grinder. You are not looking for a perfectly round tube but one in which the gross high points are taken down. I guess I should make a video and put it on the net. If you are OK with me sanding on your action slide tube I will fit it and make the video. |

Thanks for replying. I went ahead and got part # 4865 as I found a member here with the same shotgun and the rail. Fortunately my tube doesn't have the dimples you speak of so it may be easier for me to install. Once I get the rail I will see if i can make a quick installation how to and post it back in here.

Got my rail in. Installation was a bit tight but I just lubed up the rail and the forend tube and it slid right in with a bit of help from a wood block. Great rail. One minor complaint though and I don't have a picture since my camera is from only a 2.3MP one and won;t show the resolution necessary to capture it.
The edges of the rail, not the raised part but the lower surface edges are inconsistent and wavy appearing , as in maybe the machining process would be a bit better. My LaRue index clips fit but they should be tighter as when I compared to my MI rail on my AR. Overall I love it.
