What a wonderful Monday! The FedEx guy was nice enough to bring me a new Holosun ACSS and Magnifier!
Overall, I'm very impressed with the clarity using the magnifier. This will definitely make quick work of those intermediate ranges. It looks great without the magnifier too. Pretty much what I've come to expect from Primary Arms and Holosun.
Now, I do have two questions.
(TL:DR - just skip to the bold portions for my main questions.)
The first is regarding the auto wake. Not all that long ago I picked up my first Holosun sight. It's the TruGlo branded model, which I'm pretty certain is just a 403G. With the 403G, the auto-shutoff can be programmed from 2-8 hours, and the auto wake is always active. Even if it's been manually turned off. So, I was a little surprised to find the auto wake on the ACSS version is deactivated when manually turning off the sight. That is how it's designed, correct? It's really not an issue, but I just want to make sure that's the proper function for the ACSS model. Additionally, I saw that the ACSS model goes to "sleep" after 10 minutes of inactivity. I've already tested this feature and the auto wake works wonderfully. It requires far less movement than the TruGlo/403G version.
Beyond the 10 minute sleep mode, the manual stated it will shut off after 8 hours of inactivity. This is where my main question comes in regarding the auto wake; will that feature still work after 8 hours had passed? If not, that's kind of disappointing. The motion activated reticle is a huge selling point for this RDS. This sight found a home on a rifle that could see "bump in the night duty", so not having to fumble around with buttons is kind of a big deal. The TruGlo/403G model will always turn on with a little jolt; regardless of how long it's been off, or how it was last turned off. So, hopefully the auto wake on the ACSS version will work beyond 8 hours of idle time. I plan to test this myself. But, first I have to summon the restraint to leave it alone for 8+ hours. So, in the meantime, can anyone confirm if the auto wake activation on the ACSS model will still work when the sight has shut off after 8+ hours of inactivity? Or, does it only work when the sight is in "sleep mode"?
The second question is regarding zeroing. I prefer a 50/200. On paper, this ACSS reticle is designed for a 100m zero. Ultimately, I plan to use a 50/200 zero anyways. I'll just run it out to 500-600m and figure out what the real world drops are. So, again, it's not a huge deal. But, since I can't get to a 500m range all that soon, has anyone run the ACSS Holosun with a 50/200 zero? If so, how's that worked out in practice when using the BDC?
Thanks in advance! And thank you to Primary Arms for continuing to deliver excellent products at reasonable prices!
