Marsh, does the auto-shut off timer reset with input such as changing the brightness setting?
|

When can we expect this new emitter in the Microdots? I'd be happy with 10,000 hours of runtime in the Micro... I could handle changing the battery every year.

Just got mine and it is awesome! I would of preferred a 1/3 but absolute cowitness is something I can live with.
glass is as clear as the aimpont pro and this optic just feels like the real deal...if that makes sense. Very happy! |

Very cool. a bit oversized for me but I love to see you guys continuing to push the envelope, although the price did push quite a bit as well, that is understandable. The auto-off is a feature I could definitely do without though. I know you have stated that this isn't necessarily the type of optic you would stake your life on and that type of optic is the one you leave on 24/7, and that it is easier on the emitter. But a 50,000 battery life seems to be begging to be left on.
I already own a few of your micros, but if you guys come out with one with this new emitter that gets in the area of ~10,000 hours Ill buy my 4th micro dot in a heartbeat. Obviously it is hard to make a micro as sleek as this offering because of the size, but putting the brightness knob on top like your latest version really seems to help. If you guys made the newest micro with the top brightness knob for less obstructed vision, with the new emitter, and a removable mount I think you would have a winner. Any chance the emitter on the micro can disappear like on this premium sight? |

To the PA fellows,
Is it possible to fit this sight and your LER 3x with PA FTS mount on the flat top? Looks like maybe if you took the rear sight off? Definitely not with it on right? |

You know your market niche and aim to be the best in it. I was lucky enough to pickup one of the Black Friday special micro dots for $60. $60!?!?! ...I wouldn't trade this for anything in the range of even 3x that. It's well made and effective. No, it's not an Aimpoint or an EOTech. If someone offered me to trade for one, I'd be stupid to turn them down. In a world of over-the-top marketing claims and bottomless pits of bullsh!t, it's nice to get a straightforward pitch on a great product. I'm a satisfied customer of Primary Arms and will continue to purchase your products! |

How about an IR laser? Not in the works at this time but should be a easy option to add Admittedly a specialty item, but an IR laser in conjunction with a NV/Daylight red dot would be AWESOME, and here' why: Sighting in of the IR laser would be so easy (as opposed to a stand-alone IR laser). Sight in the red dot as normal (say at 100yd for example). Wait until dark and mount the PVS14 behind the red dot. Set the red dot on NV intensity and aim at an object/target 100yd away looking through the PVS14. Turn on the IR laser and simply cowitness it with the red dot...no shooting of the rifle is needed. Leave PVS14 rifle mounted for shooting if the rifle is not heavy recoiling. If rifle has heavier recoil than a PVS14 can handle (say .308) or for moving/stalking/better situational awareness, then wear the PVS14 on a helmet instead for shooting. Bonus: It would be affordable! Yes, I hunt at night. Yes, I have a PVS14. Hmmm, I wonder if one placed a 720nm cut-off filter over the green laser output window if there would be any IR coming through on the Primary Arms sight? |

Marsh, thanks for your response. let me rephrase; since you can leave aimpoint on 24/7, I assume it is a different grade of LED. Would it be cost prohibitive to source similar quality LED as aimpoint and still stay relatively in an attractive price range. Yes, I understand and appreciate this unit is not intended to compete head to head with aimpoint, but what would that upgrade cost? |
|
For the price I would be fine with 1 yr warranty if it didn't have a shutoff

I believe what Marsh is saying is:
LEDs have a finite lifespan measured in hours, many of the brighter LED's are rated at 50,000 hours before they stop emitting light. If the LED were to be left on continuously, after 5.7 years the LED would be toast; the problem is, that's an AVERAGE lifespan with many falling below that threshold. Granted, I doubt the emitter in these is anywhere near the brightness, but it does have a finite life. Marsh, what if you were to take the lifespan of the LED and halve it and make that the warranty period? Say it's 100,000 LED, that's roughly 11.4 years of continuous use; half of that usable life would give you a 5 point whatever span so make it a 5 year warranty and no auto-off feature. Just a thought; I really like what you're doing! |

For some reason I thought aimpoints have a lifetime warranty, which I verified on their site that it is not warranted for life. Marsh, I like the direction your company is headed, keep this up and you'll always have first shot at my business. |
|
Honestly, I don't mind the auto shut off. My problem is that it doesn't remember your last brightness setting. Turning it on is one quick tap of the power button.
|
|
So, how is the laser activated? Can an after-market remote switch be added? I ask because this seems perfect for my M92 pistol... But I don't want to turn on the laser and just leave it running. Better to pulse it when needed.
Thanks, and this looks great! |

Thanks for the reply, Marshall.
Hmmm. That might be something you want to consider. Another question: is it true that the red dot doesn't have a memory? When it turns on what dot brightness does it default to? I went to your site last night to order one of your Micros and now I have to make a decision - your new Advanced series seems really promising. But there's very little data on it so far. Hey! I could do an independent torture test for you! :) |
|
I had an idea on the emitter life-span problem (though, y'all may have already looked into this).
Have a sensor that detects movement. If there's no movement for x hours, shut off the LED. When motion is detected again, turn it on. There'd be some energy loss for that new feature, but it may be offset by having the LED shut off. Just a thought. |
|
I like the motion sensing idea, even with a battery hit.
Another thing that would be good is an activation cable for the laser... especially if you could make it Tavor length, I guess. |

Got mine with a laser in the mail today. So far I'm impressed. This thing feels like quality - not LaRue/Aimpoint quality, but not too far behind either.
For those that would be interested, there are only three buttons on the entire unit. Laser on/off, brightness up, and brightness down. When the optic is off hitting either of the brightness buttons turns on the dot with about 50% intensity. This is a pretty good compromise, IMHO. The dot is very crisp and 2 MOA-ish (I can't measure it easily, but it's way smaller than the 4MOA on my Aimpoint). Tint on the glass is pretty low. I need to directly compare it to my Aimpoint, but it's close to that. The laser can be activated independently of the red dot with it's button. The laser is very bright - perhaps too bright. At night it "lightsabers" - it's not discreet AT ALL. But in order to be usable in conditions other than night it needs to be bright. That said, it's not bright enough to use at any real distance outdoors during the day. Indoors it's very visible. Mounting it was easy - and while I haven't zeroed it yet, the laser and red dot were both roughly zeroed on the two guns I put it on. As others have said, the buttons have a nice tactile feel to them and a soft click. I need to shoot this thing some - probably that will happen on Monday. |
|
I'm interested to see how this will fit on an A3 flattop upper WITH the 3X FTS Primary Arms magnifier. I have the micro dot now, but thinking about moving that to another rifle and buying one of these.
|
|
So, I just took a quick trip to the range (out my back door).
I have an M92 PAP and just installed the StormWerkz rail on it. I slapped on the PA Advanced with laser, paced off 28 paces, took a knee, and fired three shots. They grouped right on the orange sticker with a sub 3" group. So, the M92, rail, and optic are all high quality, high precision devices. Win! With the optic this thing is fast and fierce. I like it. My wife says the muzzle flash is like from a cartoon. I need to do some more testing and properly zero this thing with sandbags. |
|
Thanks for another great product Marhall! I ordered one yesterday, with the laser. It's going on a rifle I'm building for my Father, we'll be firing it over the weekend.

1) does the laser have a separate battery from the red dot?
2) will there be a PA LED RDS 30mm tube version with auto-wake feature? (within the year) |
