...finally able to acquire one of these 4-14x ACSS scopes, thanks to John @CarolinaBrass.net !! Running the scope over a 16" ARP Wylde, SOCOM profile barrel using my 77grn SMK handloads and initial test day has left me VERY impressed
I did forget to "mechanical zero" the scope before zero sight-in so wasted a couple of rounds, but it was all good, got the fouling shots out of the way
Zero'ed at 100yds as recomended in scope manual and then tested on a reactive "Hostage Target" set at 100yds, flipped that bad guy head plate for 15 consecutive rounds
Knowing my handloads run a little slower than the recommended 2750 FPS for the scopes stated calibration, I moved to a 300yd firing point that had ~6" plates sitting out. The plates were at a -2 degree declination from the firing point, wind was ~10-15mph from my 730-830 position, using a folding card table under my bipoded rifle. Wind gusts were enough to move my upright body (need to slim down my profile so not as much for the wind to catch, LOL). Within 3 rounds, both plates were knocked over
The misses were either right under or right over, and I attribute that to the wind gusts. I was using the top of the stadia line (300yd) as the aiming point so at least for the 300yd calibration, my handloads match up sufficiently. I also validated the ranging capability using the MIL dots and lines at 7x & 14x against a known sized plate at the 100yd & 300yd berms, very much dead on as confirmed with my laser rangefinder. Next outing I'm planning to take it beyond 300 to see how well it matches up for the other holdovers.
The best part of the session though was the shooters standing around that had been trying all day to hit the same plates...unsuccessfully! Almost to a one, they could not believe the price of the scope in relation to the just seen demo of it's capabilities. One fella muttered he had spent 3x that and wish he had known about the ACSS scope before having done so...
Now to put the scope thru some harder use at more distances, I'll provide some feedback later.
Oh, BTW... I forget to mention when setting up to zero, I had my old issue foam pad set on the ground with the rifle upright on it, bipod extended. Wind caught the edge of the pad and flipped the whole thing over, twice! No effect on the scope or internals, much to my relief, as it landed pretty hard, both times....
