Just ordered one of these with the Deluxe AR15 scope mount. Shipped via UPS ground. Lets see how fast UPS gets it here.

Hope this is a winner.

Going on my just built Del-Ton 20" gov't, vented FF tube with PSA lower. Varmint stick.

I have a couple questions if someone would care to chime in that has the scope.

1. The illuminated reticle, it has different brightness levels? If so, can you compare it to any of their other red dot brightness? I have their multi reticle red dot as well, was curious where you say the 'high' brightness on the scope would compare to which # on the red dot. Where would the low end be on the red dot? I'm trying to ask I guess what would the 'high' level on the scope be on the Red Dot, number wise? 1-7...

2. I have a S&W M&P 15OR model that I'm going to put a Warne RAMP mount on, with a Primary Arms Micro Dot fixed base on the 45, anyone see any issues with this going forward?

Thanks in advance.

It is not meant to be use like a red dot. It is adjustable but for use in low light. In bright light you keep it off and use the black reticle,

Marsh,
I ended up ordering the scope this morning, along with a Warne RAMP and micro dot for the 45 degree mount. I had a mishap with my original order (had the wrong size RAMP rings in my cart) and I spoke to Brad, who ironically has the same name as I do. Anyway, he got it worked out and I asked him the couple questions I had while I had him on the phone. He said it would be about the medium brightness setting on my multi-reticle.

I would also like to take the time to say what a wonderful experience I've had dealing with your company. It is an outstanding place to do business with and I look forward to many more transactions and future business with you. It's not often these days a company is willing to put forth the effort that you guys do and it doesn't go unnoticed.

I haven't seen any videos of this type of setup on a rifle as of yet, and I'm just an ol' country boy from Alabama.. so once I get everything setup I'll try and drop a video with this scope, micro dot and mount. Should be fun!

I received mine last week, less than 2 days after I ordered it. Fastest shipping I've ever experienced, with second fastest being the time I ordered a Microdot.

The scope looks great, and so far I'm more than happy. When I was looking at purchasing it though, I couldn't seem to find a complete review of it. I was looking for a budget mil-dot optic with which I could practice range estimation and MOA adjustments/holdoffs. I'm a member of my Guard battalion's Scout/Sniper section, and I although I'm not currently Sniper qualified, we're still expected to be able to utilize the sniper systems...I figured something like this would be a good fit.

Anyway, once I get a chance to get out to a range of more than 25m [only indoor ranges around my area], I'll see if I can do a full write-up on the scope, just in case anybody else is interested in purchasing it for a similar purpose. Maybe Marshall would even be kind enough to sticky it (assuming my limited knowledge and writing skills can produce a decent product. ).

I finally got a chance to take this 4-16x44 scope out and see what's up. I ordered it with the Deluxe mount and it's sitting on a Del-Ton 20" gov't profile, vented FF tube on a PSA lower.

I had a good opportunity to do a comparison as I just purchased a Pentax Gameseeker 4-12x40 to mount on my Rem 700 BDL in .243 and needed to sight it in also.

Unfortunately, I don't have access to any close shooting area so had to drive 1+ hour to get to the 'local' shooting range, and by that time a significant cross wind had kicked up. So I will have to make another trip to really get dialed in.

However, I do have some interesting observations. For both rifles I was using Shoot-N-See targets at 25 and 100 yards. Both rifles had beem laser bore sighted at 25 yards at home prior to heading out.

1. Brightness. The PA scope seems not nearly as bright as the Pentax. I was thinking that even though the PA is a 44mm objective and the Pentax is 40mm, there would be very little difference in brightness during mid-day. Howwever the difference is noticeable.

2. Clarity. Again the Pentax wins. The PA almost seems to have a haze or film. I never could get what I felt like a real crisp, sharp focus. Desipte the adjustable objective and focus ring, it just is not as clear, crisp and sharp as the Pentax. The Pentax does NOT have an adjustable objective, just focus, but is a beautiful image.

3. Magnification. Pentax. Despite being a 4-12 and the PA being 4-16, on maximum magnification the Pentax image appears larger. Maybe this is an optical illusion due to the 'fuzzy' image of the PA, but I was surprised. The PA image seemed more like what I would see from one of my 3-9's at max.

4. Price. Pentax again. The Pentax was $80 while the PA was $160 (+mount). So my initial thought is that I paid twice as much for the PA but got 75% of what the Pentax gives. Not a real value in my book.

5. Scope caps. Wow. Not something I would want to put my name on. While the rear cap stays on fairly well, the front is too large to fit snugly on the objective bell. If I try to operate it with my thumb, as intended, instead of the lid flipping up, the entire cap slides off the scope. I ended up using electrical tape to overlap the edge of the cap and hold it in place.

Maybe I just got a lemon. But it was interesting to be able to do a side-by-side comparison with a scope 1/2 the cost.

All in all, I'm fairly disappointed in the PA. I was hoping for more. I probably should have saved up a bit more $$ and gone for a Nikon or just kept searching eBay for a used Leupold like I've done before.

The eye piece ring is just to focus the reticle for your eye. You do that once pointing it up at the ceiling and leave it alone. I am pretty sure the Pentax Game Seeker (Is that the one you have?) has that as well. Most scopes do. The side adjustment on ours is to dial out parallax error at longer distances. Not sure which Pentax 4-12X you have but the only one I am familiar with is the game seeker. Non illuminated, no parallax adjustment and not target turrets so the price is less. I see it being sold for around $109 most places but a few do list it in the $80 range.

That said I don't have a answer to the clarity issue. That has never been a complaint but let's do a refund or exchange since you are not happy with it and I can check it out to see if there is a problem with it.

Thanks Marshall,
I received an RMA from Jason and will be sending the scope and mount back for a refund.

I greatly appreciate the customer service that you and PA provide. Nice to see such a stand-up policy in todays world.

The Pentax Gameseeker III, 4-12x40mm is what I was comparing to. It doesn not have parallax adjustment, no target turrets, no illuminated reticle. But it's on a bolt action rifle used for a different purpose.

Maybe I just got one that didn't live up to specs and made it through QC. It happens. But you and your company are standing behind the product so i have no hard feelings and a lot of respect for you and PA.

Thank you.

I will check it out when it gets here. As I mentioned clarity has never been a complaint so it could have issues. The other thing that thought of after my first reply is if you are trying to adjust the reticle focus while in use you may never get a clear image and clear reticle so both look fuzzy. The reticle focus has to be adjusted independently at close range. If you still have it might give it a try. Clad to take care of it. That is what we are here for.

Thanks

Got to try one out at a local fun show. LWRC guys had a couple on their .308 builds. Very nice scope indeed. Marshall I'll be ordering one post haste. Which mount would be best on a AR.22 dedicated upper flat top. It has no BUIS setup on it and Im looking to get as low as possible. Thanks.

Hey Marshall,
I received notification on 3/28 that UPS had delivered my return package to PA. I am interested to see what your evaluation of the scope shows.

Even though this didn't work out for me, I am impressed with PA and your commitment to customer satisfaction.

Now just have to get the credit and see what scope I want to go with.

Thanks.

We got it and it looks OK. The eyepiece focus was all the way in. Not sure if you had a chance to focus the reticle them try it again. It will not look clear if you don't because when the target is clear the reticle will not because you wind up trying to get the best compromise which looks bad. Not everyone is going to like every scope so glad to take care of you. It is a entry level optic but we have a decent point of reference since we stock and have demos of Nightforce, Premier, Trijicon, Leupold etc.

Hi Marshall,
I did try adjusting the the eyepiece focus in and out to its full range in conjuntion with the side focus (AO).

If I had only had that scope with me that day, it probably would not have been such a stark contrast. But having the Pentax right there as a reference, it was a remarkable difference.

Oh well, I just didn't match up with that scope.

Thanks for the ultra-high quality customer service.

The Pentax could very well have better glass but it still sounds like you were not using the eyepiece focus correctly. You can't do them together. The eyepiece focus is just for the reticle. You do it once at very short range. Literally looking up at the ceiling. You focus until the reticle is sharp then leave it alone. Then in use the reticle will look clear to your eyes when you get the target in focus with the side parallax adjustment. If the eye piece is not focused for your eyes then you will never get a clear reticle and target. You look for the best compromise which results in bolt looking like crap.

Roger that. Did that multiple times both at home and at the range. Tried any number of other combinations trying to get somewhere, anywhere close to the Pentax.

Just didn't work for me.

Guess I'm just spoiled by Leupold, Bushnell Elite, Cabela's Alaskan Guide, Pentax and Redfield.
