Several days ago I e-mailed Elzetta to ask if they had any suggestions how I could get the mount stable. It is tight on the front sight, but it is not secure as it moves easily when the flashlight's button is pressed. I was hoping to mount a laser on the optional rail so any movement would not be a plus. They immediately sent an improved model out. Great service I must say. Unfortunately for me, the problem remains. When it is tightly screwed down, the mount still moves easily front to back.
I cannot imagine these guys sending out something like that and never having heard a complaint online. So I put it on a 20 inch Colt barrel.........solid. I put it on a 20 inch Saber barrel..........solid. I continued with a RRA, 2 CMMGs, Oly, M1S and one unknown. All are tight. The only thing that is different is the Bravo has a pencil barrel. But according to Elzetta, it makes not difference. I will figure something out, but will call the company tomorrow and pay for what they sent me. It is not their fault that something is different with the Bravo that makes it not work with this very well made mount.

Since the mount worked perfectly on all other barrels, (.750 dia.) I decided to make a shim to go between the .625 barrel and the mount area. That portion measured at .75, just like the other barrels. I own a small machine shop and used a piece of 12L14 to use as a spacer. Bored the ID to .6255 and the OD to .750. I cut the shim to an OAL of .725 and cut it in half. After deburring, I put in on the barrel and installed the Elzetta mount. It is now a perfect fit. The mount is solid with no play in any direction with heavy hand force.
This solved my problem and now the simple installation of a accessory rail for use with a laser is a real possibility. Thanks

I think the best fit is only possible when the barrel matches the ID of the mount. One of the barrels I mounted my first mount on had the bayonet mount milled off. The barrel measured .750 and worked fine. Thanks

Thanks for the post. While your solution looks like it will work just fine, something is definitely off somewhere. The Elzetta ZFH1500 is not dependent on the barrel. In fact, it will lock securely to an A2 Front Sight Base with no barrel whatsoever. My guess is that your particular FSB is slightly undersized in the width of the gas-tube portion.

I am having a similar problem with a Daniel Defense upper with a .625 inch "pencil" barrel. The mount moves vertically. Everything is tight. I like the mount and would like to keep it on the weapon. It is a thumbscrew model recenlty purchased from Brownells. Any suggestions?

Try a thin shim of soft metal (aluminum or brass) between the gas tube portion of your front sight base and the ZFH1500.

I dont own a machine shop and would probably chop off half my fingers if I did.

I do own a coffee cake....it was in an aluminum pan....

I cut some pieces of aluminum and wrapped the gas tube portion of the FSB. Much better now. Need more cake, though

What is it with those pencil barrels anyway? They use a different FSB for sure, but why the thinner than normal upper portion?

I have the same problem on a colt commando. The barrel is a bit thinner and there is no bayo lug. You guys should maybe consider a kit of some type for a few extra bucks (or maybe free ) as an option to address the issue. Maybe all it would have to be is a couple of pieces of the material the mount is made of that are shaped like what the OP made. Other than that, I love the mount and light.

ETA: It fits perfectly on my BCM middy with standard weight barrel and bayo lug.
