In the small town where I live, there is only one fairly good size sporting goods store that sells firearms. They do not take trades or sell used guns. All firearms are new. Last time I was in there looking, I specifically asked the salesperson this question: if I buy a new firearm here, and find it has a defect when I take it home and get a chance to shoot it, can I bring it back for a refund, or do they assist with contacting the manufacturer for warranty claims. Here was their answer: No, they do not accept returns or give refunds on firearms. If there is a problem with a new firearm they sell, it is up to the buyer to contact the manufacture and seek any warranty repairs or claims. They would be willing to help the customer with manufacturer contact info if needed.
Based on my experience, and from what I've read over the years, most (a majority?) firearms dealers do not accept/allow returns on a defective firearm. Some do. I think I read that Classic Firearms will, under certain circumstances, replace a defective firearm if the manufacturer cannot/will not satisfy the customer. Some other gun stores/shops may have a similar policy.
This is just my opinion, but I doubt very seriously the OP will receive any kind of monetary refund from PSA, unless they are willing to hire a lawyer and proceed with legal action, which could cost the OP a lot more than the price of the firearm in question. I agree that in this case, a repair/replacement would be the best outcome possible. Forget the monetary refund; it ain't gonna happen.
