My FN CHF/CL middy upper (from about a year ago) came with crappy handguards which the heat shield pressed on the gas tube (causing friction) and was lose inside. They were reminiscent of (but not identical to) RRA handguads (LOVE the shape, HATE the junk heatshield). I, however, replaced those with RRA units (after much heat shield fiddling and black siliconing the heat shields in place to not move) and all it good with that upper now.
NOW.... just recently I received the Ptac nitride middy upper (LOVE it!!) and it came with decent handguards (they look similar to Cavalry Arms). These have a GREAT (non "barrel contoured") heat shields, lock in place well, and due to the non contour heat shield (the issue with RRA ones) they have plenty of clearance over the gas tube (even being tapered as well, although not quite as slim as RRA ones, again they are the same shape as Cav Arms).
So my question is THIS:
Which hand guards are your standard middy hand guards? Does it vary by upper manufacturer (Ptac, vs PSA, vs ?) or are these nicer ones now your STANDARD (hopefully you will start using whichever ones the Ptac comes with on ALL your middies)?
