Well, with the release of the 1911 Frames last night, i figured i would start a thread about them, that maybe we can get PSA to sticky.
General information : PSA released two versions. The Stainless Steel and the Carbon Steel... both of which were selling for 139.99 each, (origionally 399.99) , with a stated limited release of serial numbers 100-700.. or a total of 600 frames per serial number. General assumption is that the first 100 of each, were either built by PSA, or are being held to be built by PSA, and the ones we saw at shot show in 2013 are within that first 100 serial number run. Stainless Steel The description from PSA's Site : Originally Posted By PalmettoStateArmory: SKU: 503830 UPC: 503830 MFR#: 503830 These are pre-production prototype surplus OEM 1911 frames, functional and ready for you to build. Luck of the draw on checkering and serial numbers. 5" 1911 Frame size Forged Frame 4140 Carbon Steel Model 70 style Cut for beavertail safety Known Specs for building purposes : .250 radius grip safety (cut for EGW. Note: EGW does their grip safeties at .245 to fit a .250 frame cut) The rear tang is cut for a commander style grip safety/beavertail, not a GI. A GI will leave a gap. Frame is NOT cut for those who want a ramped barrel. Thus, people wanting to buy a ramped barrel will have to cut the frame if they choose a ramped barrel. Hopefully things here will be informative and helpful to everyone. That being said, My first question to PSA is can we get some photos of the frame's roll marks? Im curious about the way they are marked. 6/2/15 - Info on Feed Ramps added. |

I would like to know who made them since they were a $400 frame originally. And you are welcome for the link.I bought a carbon, now need a slide (hopefully without the billboard).

View Quote hehe thanks man. yea I bought a Stainless, as i figured as is it will be a durable finish, and if i wanted to refinish it later i could as well. I'm curious on the slides myself. |
|
|
So the question now become: What slide, and what cut for sights? Novak, or Bomar?

Thanks for the posts.
There were some cosmetic changes to the production model 1911 frame. As these are fully functional and ready for building, we decided to offer them to our patient DIY customers that have been jonesing for a PSA 1911 fix. We have matching slides that we will be putting online today. Complete pistols and pistol kits will be available shortly. Stay tuned. |

Will you have more to sell? It does say "TEMPORARILY Out of Stock", so I think they will....looks like these have been good sellers for them, but as they won't be the production model, I would expect future slides to be somewhat different. |

Will you have more to sell? I would hope so. I would also have hoped they had listed at least 1 per frame, for both the stainless and the carbon steel versions. we'll see i suppose. Im thinking D16 may be onto something there... maybe we'll see more from them as time goes by. I konw that im gonna still buy a production 1911 from them as well as the build my own things. :) |

Since this is going to be a slow build for me, I look forward to hitting the sales. I like that they added a 1911 specific site section, now I need them to do a threaded barrel. |

PSA...
Do you plan on releasing parts kits for these as well in the near future? I'm trying to get my ducks in a row and would gladly wait and purchase them from you if they will be available. Thanks! ETA: also, will there be more slides? I didn't get all I needed. |

are the slides cut for series 70 or series 80 safties? Edit, I hate series 80. too many extra parts to break, JMB would disapprove of this departure

ive got mine in my grubby hands.
a few quick points. I dont have "good" pics till i get home late tonight. 1.) Trigger guard appears Undercut for comfort. 2.) Mag well is beveled. 3.) Mine has a front checkering not all all do, and the one carbon model i saw did not have the checkering. 4.) Novak Sight cuts 5.) Dual cocking serrations, front and rear, both at a nice angle. 6.) Lowered and flared ejection ports. 7.) Slide is totally roll mark free. No markings at all on it on the exterior. I havent inspected it well enough to know if totally that way. I am very happy regarding my purchase. Its a very tight, smooth sliding feel. I cant believe how well machined these are. whomever did the machining did a very good job. JD at farrow said it was like the 3rd he saw that had checkering, (so if someone at the warehouse is looking out for me i cannot thank you enough) he also stated he had yet to see any carbons with front strap checkering. Comparison with carbon, showed 2 positions of serial numbers. I found that to be an interesting variance. |
