I have been trying to find out what grade steel the barrel is made of, and whether there is any high pressure testing and magnetic particle inspection on these. I am sold on nitride/melonite treatment being an effective substitute for chrome lining, and am willing to depart from the mil specs on that particular feature, but I wouldn't want one if the rest of the specs aren't up to mil standards; i.e. 4150 instead of 4140 steel, and some sort of barrel proofing, even if its just batch testing. Since they aren't saying one way or another on these things, you can assume that the subpar methods and materials are being used. I've found that is a pretty fair assumption when it comes to the firearms market.
I became an early and enthusiastic customer of PSA's because they made rifles and parts with all the relevant mil specs for a great price, amd advertised the features. They still make many products that meet that description, but they also have a lot of "budget" stuff where some corners are cut to deliver an even lower price. So until I see some confirmation on the specs on these, I'm not interested.
