So after much anticipated wait time for both waiting for it to come back on stock and to actually get it, it has finally landed in the eagle's nest. PSA released two types of the 20" rifle's that I know of, one is a kit and one is just the complete upper......A group of us (in the thread 20" uppers with the aid of GameCockOperator, I'm on to you buddy!) convinced PSA to release a kit version of the 20" rifle that they had already had up on the site.....within 2 days, the 20" upper only became a kit and yeah....I'm down $558 bucks, but all smiles......But enough yapping, here's the pic!
Oh, love my some HPT/MPI goodies! iPhone 3GS taken photos, don't cry.....I know it hurts your expectation for HD quality lol Love the packaging! http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb251/BluFlare089/Firearms/M16A4%20Build/photo.jpg http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb251/BluFlare089/Firearms/M16A4%20Build/photo9.jpg http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb251/BluFlare089/Firearms/M16A4%20Build/photo1.jpg http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb251/BluFlare089/Firearms/M16A4%20Build/photo8.jpg That white spot is not a blemish fyi... Quality stuff as always (even though we had our slight complaints, I still like PSA ) Now the fun of making a clone, M16A4.........time to scourer ARFCOM on the DIY............ DD RAS or something more expensive like Knights Arnament RAS.......lol open to suggestions!! |

My next AR build will likely be a 20" A4 rifle with an A2 stock, a KAC R5 handguard, carry handle, and DD foregrip.
Or if I'm lucky it'll be a NM A2 rifle....have to see how things pan out. |
|
Great deal. You will be very happy with it I'm sure. Looking forward to after build pics.
|
|
Nice,I put my kit together on a Anderson integral trigger guard lower the same day it arrived on Thursday. The shame is I haven't even fired it
|
|
Thanks for all the comments!!
Yeah I'm super stoked and can't wait to start the assembly. I have no doubt I would love it, after all, I do keep coming back to PSA lol. Start off as a M16A2 and will eventually become the A4, with a free float rail (not true to the real because I'm designating it as the old school DMR, not Mk12, that's my another build in progress :p ) |

Wait until you shoot it. I love mine. If you are putting a standard LPK and fire control make sure you dry fire the shit out of it then lube bearing surfaces. Don't let the hammer hit the lower. This will smooth the trigger pull out. Is it weird I get excited for other peoples shooting experiences?

Hope you will sight it in with iron sights and gives a range report. I'm curious if you have to move your rear sight far left.
|
|
I liked my first 20" PSA CHF so much I bought a second :) One has a Vortex Crossfire 2 4-12x50 and the other currently has a Bushnell 1-4x24 illuminated optic. I think I am going to take off the 1-4x, put on my carry handle and change out the receiver for the OIF one I recently ordered.
My only gripe with my PSA 20 inchers is the ammo bill |
|
I put a MBUS centered on my rail. It was 1/2" high at 25 yds,1/2 left.
20 for 20 with shabby reloads. |

I have the same setup as original poster. At 100 yds I'm getting about 3" groups. Is it true that is 'as good as it gets' with Walmart-garbage ammo? And yes, I've had to move the sight way left. Is this common, any reason for it? |
|
It is the ammo, not the barrel.
You need to handload for best groups. If not, try different ammo manufacturers and different bullet types and different weights. Good luck! |
|
I will report once I assemble it as it currently sit. My best guess would be what ammo you ran, 5.56 or .223? 55g, 62g or 77g for us MK12 lovers. And yes, manufacturers have a huge impact on your rifle performance. Once assembly, I'll be running std. Federal 5.56 XM193 through it.
Trying to find a feasible FF that doesn't cost one of my arm or leg is hard work making a clone.......KAC didn't have any FF seconds for 150 bucks. sad day. lol Off topic, should I keep my FSB or go for the PSEUDO M16A4 / MK12 MOD 0? I guess it's kinda odd to put a 4x-6x optics on a rifle with a full size fsb. Thoughts? Currently working on this project as well, :P Rem 700 Long Range, M40 Stock in .30-06 http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb251/BluFlare089/Firearms/2d5d4991-faea-453a-86f6-212252949b70.jpg I wonder why I'm broke again.......oh right, taxes, that must be it. |

Here's a quick update on the build, just finally got around to installing the LPK as of monday and everything else today..... needless to say, FF quad rail is definitely in order, M16A4 DMR is a go.......So far, midwest industries ff has everyone beat on prices...anyone other copany makes ff that only cost a forearm and not a arm? lol
Granted, the stock is not quite the best, still has a slight wiggle room even after tightening down quite a bit, but, not complaining, I love the build. upper/lower matched perfectly in terms of tightness and with no wobble whatsoever (nothing compared to my CMT upper/lower though :P) Mated with a Vortex Strikefire red/green + 2x mag. ACOG lover gtfo to poor to own one of those fancy glass lol http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb251/BluFlare089/Firearms/M16A4%20Build/9edee99c-9dac-440c-907b-c3b6f9878511.jpg |

im still waiting on an upper like that, but I don't want to give my left arm for it either....

I've tighten to the point where the screw lip is ever slightly pass the tapped slope on the rubber pad. Like the part of the tap where there's a inward slope for the screw base to rest on and for snuggly, yeah, screwed pass that point. Can't see it can go any further without damage.

This may sound trivial, but did you install the spacer on the end of the receiver extension before installing the A2 stock.?

I put my stock on and thought what is this cute piece of plastic.I had a castle nut in the kit also so I wasn't concerned. Then I read the directions.

You could always apply some tape lengthwise on the extension,or put some burrs on it to get a tighter fit.
|
|
I had the same issue with my kit, the spacer ended up being a little too long so i just sanded it down.

I bought that same upper last Black Friday. First time out with it I was getting vertical stringing, like 4"-5" at 100 yds with everything from M193 to 77 gr SMK.
A friend mentioned that a loose barrel nut could cause that. So I checked and sure enough. As far as I could tell the thing was only hand tightened. Not good. But 20 seconds with a torque wrench fixed it and now it's more accurate than I'm able to shoot. |

Some taper pins are only tapped in and come out easy, and the pins are reusable
Others seem to have been pounded in by a gorilla and take heat, grinders, really big hammers, steel instead of brass punches,a good support jig and luck. |

i dont blame you there.
Protip - KAC sells the drop in uppers in blems, and theyre like only 150.. so in the future if you want one, there you go! |

Thanks dude!! I was stoked to have it finally completed and to the way I wanted, not the initial way, but nonetheless the way I had in my head somewhere.
GCO - Don't tempt my temptation to do another 20" build (Although unavoidable, I've already have 6 AR's all SPR-ed with 1 CMT .308 along the way, Aeroprecision .308 COP along the way and of course PSA .308's....) Ramen Noodles FTMFW!! |
