I bought this upper with the stock handguards (Cav Arms I think). Well the stock handguards are oval instead of round, and the front cap on the upper is round which would not fit a standard set of round A2 handguards. I had a triangle plate so I proceed to drive out the taper pins, remove the front sight base and swap out the round retaining plate for the traditional triangle shaped one. reassembled and everything is good to go. Or so I thought. When I got to the range it took 19 clicks left of center to sight in the upper. So I come home and tap out the taper pins again......and then I decide that my kitchen table gunsmithing skills may not be as good as I thought. I contacted PSA via IM here on the forum. Was upfront in sharing that I had altered the upper from "as shipped". Joe Weir from PSA told me that they could realign and to send the upper in. He said there would be a $30 service charge and I had no problem. He also thanked me for being honest about monkeying around with the front sight. Well I sent the upper in marked "RMA" with a letter inside explaining my situation and asking them to call me when they have the rifle repaired and I would give my credit card information for the service charge and return shipping. Five days after the upper arrived at PSA, it showed back up at my door. It was repaired and the front sight was aligned and there was no charge for fixing my mess!!! Thank you Palmetto State Armory!!! Good stuff. One of the many benefits of dealing with a small business |

I know some in the .mil use a carbine extension on their M16's but they use a H6 buffer. I highly suggest the VLTOR A5 for any upper but especially the 20" ones |

The Canadians reportedly use H3 buffers in their C7A2s so I figure I might start there and see how things go. |

PSA offers both mid-length and carbine length gas systems on the dissipators, mine is a mid-length. Here are more recent pics of it: |

ok, put the trigger parts in last night and just finished shooting it. i only put 500 rds of xm193 through it tonight, and so far, so good. no hiccups. everything fed and fired perfectly.
i will try to put another 500 rds through it this weekend. weird thing was, i just slapped the rear sight on and when i went to sight it in, it was already sighted in! that freaked me out a bit. it took me 12 rounds to sight in the EOTECH. yes, it looks like I am a walking magpul advertisement. it's all PSA, upper, lower, with magpul furniture. except the quick detach end plate and swivel is from Noveske. The rifle kit was PSA's 2554 with MOE upgrade. I am pretty happy with it and will be doing another PSA rifle kit next. maybe even a pistol kit. |

After reviewing this thread numerous times I have decided I should have ordered some color in my PSA rifle. I am not really looking for the color "du jour" but the flat dark earth and other colors just look downright good. PSA, are you going to force me to build another rifle? Damn, I cannot afford that just yet.

The psa kinda has a grainy texture where the lower is smooth. Its not noticeable unless you look super closely at it. |
