Hello and welcome to the "how we do it" and "what we use" thread

This is the process we use to stake the gas key on the carrier.

Torque wrench, check! Carrier, check! Key and screws, check! Ready to be assembled!

Torquing to 35 inch lbs... per Mil req.

Placing assembly into staking fixture!

Making sure everything is lined up before staking!

Staking the key!

Action shot of inside the "staker"!

Freshly and correctly staked key! OUCH!

Finished product!

Now, if your carrier dosen't look like this it was not done at DPMS. This is the ONLY way we stake the gas key to the carrier.

Thanks for taking the time to see how we actually do things here at DPMS!!!!

Terrific post, and an even better idea to do these types of "how we do it" posts in the future.

That's what mine look like. Thanks for showing how you do it.
Just picked up another DPMS Upper from MidwayUSA, 16" Bull Barrel, Slick side, complete upper for $359. It shoots great!

Now start using full auto bolt carriers instead of semi-auto and I think we may have something.

Yes, I own a DPMS and it runs great. Just wish the BCG was FA.

I bought my DPMS new in 2004 and the gas key is not staked like that. How long has DPMS been staking there gas keys this way?

FWIW - I just bought a new Sweet 16 and the gas key is staked exactly as portrayed in the original post.

My 308 appears to be staked the same way. Do you follow exactly the same process for the 308? Do you apply the same amount of torque?

Well it appears we don't check this thread fast enough.

Yes both are adequately staked.
