Is Colt still going to be making the Colt AR15A4 rifle for 2017?
My dealer said they are backordered at the moment. Got a deposit down on one when the next one that comes in to the shop. Colt makes these in batches. Am I looking at 3 month wait? One thing about Colt I never did like was the availability of their porducts. |

You just missed the last batch by about a month. Probably will be awhile before they show up again

I was backordered on my initial order and was pleasantly surprised I received it when I did. Not sure who you have it on backorder with, but I know GT distributors gets a nice assortment. Ask your dealer what the chances are he will receive some....or put yourself on GT's backorder list and wait and see. |

Wonder what's going on over there that they can't seem to keep any of their dealers stocked reliably. You would think they'd ramp up production a bit or something.

I could replace it myself but I would just prefer not to have to. I know that there is no guarantee that the next batch won't come with the same blued end cap. Edit: Tombstone Tactical shows the AR15A4 as sold out now... That makes it easier to wait for the next batch at least. |

Great, so the time to get an actual mil-spec AR-15A4 has come and gone.

Maybe P&S is making the stocks, grips and handguards for the A4 as well? Ken made it sound like there might possibly be bigger issues at play though. |

[#15]
Damn that sucks. Glad I grabbed two aluminum trap doors when Ken still had them. One went on my AR15A4 and the other one went on a Colt A1 stock for a MK12 build.

Looks like I am going to put another call into Colt. I have been speaking with a different person...maybe get some more info...stay tuned.
|

I'm tuned. View Quote So....I spoke with two guys at Colt....will not divulge their names. I don't want this to possibly come back on them. Bottom line....The End caps were a screw up...should have been phosphated, instead they were put in bluing salts and polished. If you want the end cap replaced with a proper one, you can send in your rifle, provided you purchased it within a year, and have the proper one installed. The roll mark used on the barrels...someone pulled the wrong one and marked the right barrels with the wrong roll mark. This too will be replaced, provided rifle was purchased within one year of said repair. Some have opted for the replacement, many have not. They still are doing replacements, and have the barrels set aside, for those wanting the proper roll mark. Replacement will take between 45-60 days. Colt also has indicated they have a lot of good things going on internally. Looking to reduce turnaround times to a couple weeks, instead of the months, years delays on custom work. The expanse is blowing out. Although not in the same price range and reliability as a 6920, they do offer a lot of bang for the buck in opening price point. Not everyone is looking to spend for a 6920 or 6940...some want the lesser option. The expanse has sold more in the short time it has been available than the 6920 did in three years...impressive. I asked, what if any, other issues they knew of the Colt A4.....nothing. I asked again, in a different format....nothing. Went in a different direction and still again...nothing. Maybe someone else should call and try to corroborate, one way or another, what the real issues are with the A4. I am satisfied with what I know...until someone else hears otherwise. |
|
[#23]
Thanks for taking the time for all that.
I'm pretty surprised that those end caps actually turned out to be blued. Surprised about the Expanse too, I thought that it would have been a big flop. |
|
[#24]
Expanse gets you a "Colt" without paying Colt prices. Not surprised it's doing well. My only worry was that it'd be like the Walther .22LR "Colts" and the non-Colt parts would end up being shitty quality and dragging public perception of the brand down. One thing I like about Colt is it's like buying Knight's as far as retention of value on the gray market, and I want them to stay that way. I don't plan to ever sell any of my Colts, but at the same time, if I ever did, I don't want that to change. If that's not happening though, then hey, more power to them.

GT Distributors has 4 Colt A4's on order...since September of last year. Of those, only one has been spoken for. The other three are available if you want to wait.
Better to be put on a waitlist from last year than a new one this year....just saying. |

all overpriced. View Quote The last two rifles I bought I paid about $1700.00 each. I really didn't think that the price could go any lower on either of them when I bought them... I have never been more wrong. I usually see the 6940 going for around $1300.00 and the ARX has very recently been going for $825.00/$850.00. Early in 2015 I paid more than I had to for my HK VP9 (LE model for around $835.00). August of last year I bought a stripped Colt M4 lower from SAW and those aren't cheap either. I'm done buying overpriced guns. |
