There's nothing to get right or wrong about it, it's not part of their finishing standards.
Colt doesn't care about you and your desire to have a pristine looking weapon. If this bothers you, don't buy a Colt gun, vote with your wallet and maybe they'll get the message, or, more likely, it'll turn out that they don't care and won't miss you.
If you don't want a weapon finished to military standards, then don't buy a Colt. It's not about better or worse or right or wrong. It's the standard, and M4A1 Carbines are not being rejected by the military for dings in the anodizing or forging flash irregularity or whatever.
If you want a weapon finished to different standards, whether you believe those standards are "just as good" or "better," then get a gun from a different maker, it's not as if it's the 90s and you have no other choices, the market it awash in options.
I continue to be baffled by people who buy a gun because it's supposed to be as close to a military gun as they can get--then complain because it's as close to a military gun as they can get, warts and all.
