Why is Colt being so hush on this, considering how wildly popular it'll be. If and when it's released, I'll be picking two up.

Hurry up and get this to market already Colt! What are you waiting for, Hillary?

I thought I would bump this up since the NRA show started today, anyone there know if there is new info on this?

I have read anything about the middy yet, but colt is releasing retro AR's that are supposed to be down to the T

I have just got word of a mid length carbine for possibly later this year or early 2017, this is from Colt at the NRA show. Colt has been experimenting with a mid length for a while now. If not released late this year, Shot Show 2017 will probably be likely for release info.

they are still figuring out what exactly its going to be
they are field testing now and they told me they are not gonna show it until they know its going to be sold. thats the new colt policy. no more showing vaporware or anything until they are ready to sell it |

Everybody else is producing mid-lengths. Are they waiting to see what the election results are? |

How difficult should it be for colt to get it right? This isnt some new concept that requires years of r&d |

Cause Colt doesn't care about civilians and never will. They don't care what customers want. They are way behind the times.

I was looking on Brownells for parts for my new build and saw they had a Colt mid-length gas tube in stock. Bought one since I needed one for the new build anyways.

Is this project dead? I've scoured the internet, including Colt's facebook page. Nothing, not one bit of new info anywhere l.

Colt, taking you where you wanted to be 10 years ago... and I am being generous with that number...
I don't get why they are slow keeping up with the times. Bushmaster did it too. I could understand if these were giant companies with 10k plus employees laden with bureaucracy, but these guys? You could have Roy in shipping give you a presentation based on what he reads on forums and that would give you everything you need to keep up with trends. |

Now that they have a new defense contract no need for the peasants (again).

The following is just my somewhat informed opinion - but I have been to a couple of Armorer's Schools with Ken Elmore of Specialized Armament Warehouse, and this was related in person as the reasoning that there were no Colt Mid Lengths five years ago. Mr. Elmore worked for Colt during the AR/M16's development stage, has run "SAW Sales" for a number of years and is still well connected with Colt, as his firm provides THE sales and service for the Civilian/Police Full Auto Colt market, as well as custom configurations of his own.
Colt - and the US Defense Department - do not share much enthusiasm for the Mid Length design - believing, (with over forty years of experience and testing of every possible AR Configuration to back them up) that it is a fairly useless affectation. I believe that Colt is only going to build Mid Lengths if they don't have anything better to do. Mr. Elmore explained to the class that it does nothing significant you cannot do with gas port sizing, buffer weight, etc, and is just a phony talking point used by the Lesser AR Manufacturers to sell their inferior wares to those who need to believe in some magical "edge" in their favorite, high priced brand. As Mr. Elmore explained to the Police Armorers in my class who advocated for this "improvement" - the concept has been well examined by Colt and DOD and is simply not of sufficient merit to burden the parts supply system with a third set of non-interchangeable parts. If it had an advantage, Uncle Sugar could afford to order it's production and it's addition to the Technical Data Package. So far, they have not. So, if Colt brings it out, in my opinion, it will be to cater to the limited number of people who think it matters, as a marketing tool to overcome a falsely perceived "advantage" the small time makers have exploited so far. Colt is learning to cater to the whims of the public, you see..... CC . |

I would rather have a carbine or a full length with with 12" gas tube |

Ken isn't old enough to have worked on that development team.
If you accept that the M16 has advantages over the M4 (it does) then it makes sense that the mid length splits the difference. |

Ooh, not monolithic like the 901 and 6940 so I could customize it up if I wanted? This is intriguing...
Sign me up when there's a 6960CK upper kit available. |

Ahhh, too bad it's a pencil barrel. I'd prefer a straight "medium" profile.
Then all it would need is a URX and Geissele and I'd be in my first midlength 5.56. |
