with the bankruptcy stuff going on, is there any reason to go out and rush to buy a colt if there is something i've been wanting?
|
|
If it is something you want why not buy it now. Prices are the lowest they will ever be, no matter what happens to colt.

The pony and the name are worth too much to go away, but if Freedom Group buys them the quality will go away.

Company will be sold.
Union workers will be gone. Mgt will be gone. News reports indicate they will not restructure. They want Auction of company. Colt products will change and hopefully for the better. If you like the older products, then now is the time to buy. I dont need anymore Colts right now. I am hopeful the new company will produce a even nicer product. On my wish list is a rifle like those few released US PROPERTY mistakes, but a little different. US PROPERTY marked lower. Selector stops. SAFE, SEMI or SAFE, SEMI, AUTO marked. "just for show". |

It will be bought, split wide open and sold off in pieces. IE: Equipment, buildings, etc... At this point Colt is worth more split up then staying whole. It is unfortunate, but most likely what will happen.
|

I'm curious too. I own four Colt uppers and three lowers. I'm considering panic buying a lower for my spare 6920 upper.

how long until you read "Pre June 2015" ads for Colt AR15's?? sad the AR in particular has
lost so much value. $799? how can one go wrong stocking up on them........... I never thought they would go below $900?? |
|
We may be entering the era of the last of the CT made Colts.

I wouldnt recommend buying any Colt firearms that would require specialty repair parts that can be only provided by Colt.
Till things become more clear as to whats going to happen. Such as the 901 line. Its not a impossibility that you find yourself with a 901 rifle that you cant find a replacement bolt or carrier for if Colt "worst case" gets dissolved. |

I've been wanting a 6921 upper for awhile now so I grabbed one just incase

This, management might get replaced, union contracts might get renegotiated, but the Colt brand and quality isnt going anywhere. but just incase they do go away, i do have 9 colt rifles View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

For those questioning on buying Colts, then buy something else; it only leaves more for me
I own two complete Colt rifles and four more complete Colt uppers; they are my favorite AR's to own |

They make a superior product ! It's the only AR platform that I would ever use |

I could see someone like FN, S&W, or Freedom Group buying them out. Could be a good thing or bad thing, depending on who buys them. But then again the AR market is saturated, there are over 20 some companies that make a version of the AR, so I wouldn't be surprised if they did go under. Right now, its cheaper to build your own AR, than to buy one complete. If Colt does go under, than the 4 Colts I have in my safe will eventually triple in value, and all except for one, I have never fired. Like someone else mentioned, Colt would be worth more dead than still in business.
I just picked up my last Colt the other day. Another 6920, Im leaving it in the box still in the wrapper. I figure its a good investment opportunity. Either way for me its a win win!!!, but it is a shame they are in this situation. |

BCM is the new Colt. View Quote BCM's assembly tooling looks like a bunch of monkeys with wrenches and screwdrivers and probably the Reaction Rod, so I think not. No one has tooling and jigs like Colt. They have multi thousand dollar machines just to install barrel nuts, both standard and those on the 6940. |

Colt is top of the line product and is 1 of only 2 companies that are truly " mil spec " the other being FN Even still, FN assembles rifles totally different than Colt does... FN still uses the "guy with a wrench" technique to install a barrel, FN also mounts and pins the FSB before installing the barrel on the upper receiver (as do all non Colt manufacturers), whereas Colt installs the barrel on the upper receiver before they mount and pin the FSB. Also unlike everyone else, Colt has a jig that keeps the lower receiver and carbine receiver extension in perfect alignment while torquing the castle nut to spec. |

That's the thing. As civies go, no big deal if Colt goes belly up.
Really only two companies exist that could supply the military in case of a hot war where a huge number of rifles were needed in a small amount of time. Colt, and FN, who is Belgian. It seems to me that national security interests should weigh in on keeping the pony prancing. |

Gun sales are slow due to the poor economy, not much disposable income out there, it is the summer also.
The Black Rifle market is saturated... Yes, this is the time to buy Colt's. Some dealers are overstocked and if one calls them they are willing to deal over the phone.... Don't miss a good opportunity to get some bargains... |

Could be a good investment. When or if they go out of
business they will become classics. Like the Python, Detective Special. Agent, & Anaconda. |
