I have no dog in this fight, but having wasted my time reading this entire thread and being a rational person I feel compelled to comment (for some reason
)
A) There is photographic evidence of a rifle with a serial number lower than 101.
B) There is photographic evidence of a letter stating a rifle with a serial number in the mid 100s was one of the first 100 sold to COMMERCIAL DISTRIBUTION CHANNELS.
The letter does not state it was one of the first 100 rifles manufactured per the OP's claim.
This tells me it is likely serial number 1 through 100 went outside the "COMMERCIAL DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL" and were manufactured before serial number 101.
Logic Check:
Why would Colt go backwards and manufacture guns with a lower serial number? This seems totally illogical and (to my mind) would create an odd book keeping situation. Why wouldn't they just continue on? The two LE901s I owned were in the 900 to 1400 range (IIRC) which didn't mean squat to me. However, again, why would Colt go backwards and "infill" from presumably serial number 1 to 100?
OP:
I think you likely have the first two serial numbers SOLD TO COMMERCIAL DISTRIBUTION CHANNELS but its unlikely you have the first two made.
Regarding Colt's Representatives being on target with information...
I've owned Colt AR15s since 1984. During the past 31 years I've been told vastly erroneous information by Colt. The biggest mistake they told me was mid-way into the 1994-2004 AWB. I had about five post-89 / pre-94 Sporters that I wanted to add collapsible stocks to. Colt told me it would be a violation of the 94 AWB so I contacted the ATF. The ATF (signed by the Chief) sent me a letter stating Colt's removal of the bayonet lug was "voluntary" and had no bearing since the rifles were manufactured prior to Sept 13, 1994. It added that the guns were "grandfathered" and I could do whatever I wanted (non-NFA of course). I'm guessing this is a call Colt received MANY times so you would think they would have been more informed.
Of course, Colt is the company that still owes me two Carhartt coats from last summer's "Colt Smokin' Hot Summer Promotion". I sent my two forms in August 2014. On February 9, 2015 I received this letter:
To our Loyal Colt Customers:
This notification is to inform you that your submission has been validated for the Colt Carhartt jacket which has either been shipped or is currently being processed. If you have not yet received your jacket, it has been delayed due to the popularity of this promotion and the unavailability of certain jacket sizes. It is estimated that orders will be complete by late spring. We at Colt apologize that fulfillment is taken longer than anticipated and we thank you for both your loyalty as a customer and your patience while we work through the remaining orders.

Its now mid April and I still don't have my coats, LOL. I hope my free Aimpoint from LWRC doesn't take this long....
I'm not bashing the folks at Colt. Again, I bought my first SP1 Carbine in 1984 and have owned
DOZENS of Colt ARs since. In fact, I haven't been without one in three decades, and outside of one lonely BCM all of my DIs are Colt. I just take their CS with a grain of salt.
My windy .02 which is worth about .00005 when inflation is factored in.
Sorry this thread needed levity.
