I love it Augee!!!!
what is that mounting device on the top of the rail? is it for an IR laser or some such? |
|
It's a USGI PEQ-2/PAC-4 mount. It looks like it is a little too far forward to me...

As for the mounting location, it places the PEQ-2 as far forward on the rail as possible, and the mounting bracket is still fully engaged, so it's just a matter of preference, I suppose, just like what rail slot to mount an optic on. It puts the illuminator further forward reducing the effect of the shadow from the FSB and makes the tapeswitch port easier to access if you need a practical reason. ~Augee |

I thought the same thing, when I first saw it. I've always used Houge grips on everything. But this grip is awesome to handle. The palm swells fill the hand well. There's a natural rise for the trigger finger in one side and thumb on the other. It's ambidextrous. And the angle of grip is changed to a more natural hold keeping the elbow closer to the body. And of course it has an enlarged trigger guard opening for larger gloves. I know it looks butt ugly, but it sure is nice. The only improvement I could recommend would be a soft rubber covering. I tried a Houge slip-on with it, but it just didn't fit. It isn't all that necessary though. I really works fine the way it is.

Wish they'd mark it "5.56MM" too, though. Oh well, can't win everything, and they usually sell for less than the 6920, too, which is great for me, because I'd end up swapping the barrel anyways, add a Colt carbine stock, and voila! Hmmm... maybe I should learn to leave things alone... but then again, the only factory new gun I've ever bought was the 6520, and I sold the upper before I even shot it. ~Augee I admire your photoshop work there. |

I've only used a PEQ-2 on the side, so I've never experienced interference with the FSB. Dustin |

Supracerxtreme that looks great. Details on you techniques please. |

So is a model "R0920" basically the HB SOCOM version of the R0977?
|
|
Negative:
To the best of my knowledge, the designations are: RO977: commercial / export version of the M4 Carbine, marked "M4 Carbine" and S-1-F FCG RO920: USG M4 Carbine with S-1-3 FCG and property marked with "W" serial number prefix RO921: USG M4A1 Carbine with S-1-F FCG and property marked with "W" serial number prefix RO921HB: USG M4A1 Carbine with the "SOCOM" barrel installed, otherwise identical to the RO921 There's some limited evidence of both RO977s and RO920s that have had HB barrels installed, but I can't say for certain if there has ever been an RO977HB or RO920HB designation, though it wouldn't surprise me. Same with the LE models: LE6920: commercial version of the M4 Carbine with 16.1" barrel, marked "Colt's Law Enforcement Carbine" and S-1 FCG LE6921: commercial version of the M4 Carbine with 14.5" barrel, marked "<M4LE>" and S-1 FCG LE6920HB: same as LE6920 but with HB barrel installed (special run of 300 made for SAW) So essentially, the upper receiver group for the RO920, RO921, RO977, and LE6921 are all identical, while the "SOCOM" barrel is generally (or as generally as you can say with Colt... ) limited to the RO921HB. It's a pretty fine distinction, and one that probably about .01% of our community are concerned about, but I'm always issued an RO920 - USG M4 Carbine. Most of my M4 clones, if you cared enough to ask me, I'd call RO920 clones, with one that's fixing to become an RO921 clone, and an RO921HB clone for my one that has an RO921HB barrel. Depending on what you plan to replicate: an LE6920 or MT6400C with 14.5" barrel can be an RO920, RO921, RO977 or LE6921 clone an FA lower with an RO977 upper can be considered an RO921 or RO977 clone and any clone built with an RO921HB barrel can be an RO921HB clone Or we can just go back to calling the M4 clones and M4geries. ~Augee |

huh.. interesting. I just never heard of a RO920 so I was assuming the SOCOM barrel. I've always referred to the flat top, safe/semi/burst M4's as RO979's. I guess the only difference then would be the potential "W" SN...

Figured Id post a pic of my newest Colt. I traded a Colt 1911 70 series Gov. Model unfired NIB that I had $800.00 in and $70 to it, thought it was a damn good deal. Its a nib Colt 6920 with small pin and new saftey selector, I added KAC m4 RAS rail and KAC forward grip (thanks to the wife it was a wedding present,) EOtech 511 and an ARMS 40 BUIS.

Cheers, Jack They can be had for as low as $1,095 and I think I might have seen a couple out there at $1,055. I think someone started a Colt "deals" thread on here that has links to some pretty nice deals. |
