Filled out the paperwork on my 6940.
It is a DI gun and I noticed the upper is a piston version. Didn't open so I don't know if it has the guide piece. Also it is stamped M4. Anyone seen the Piston upper on the DI gun? |

Anyone seen the Piston upper on the DI gun? If it has a Piston upper, then it's not the DI gun. Does the box say 6940 or 6940p? It's possible Colt goofed up and slapped a 6940p upper on a 6940 lower and packed it up as a 6940. If that's the case here, then lucky you. The piston uppers are worth quite a bit more than their DI 6940 counterparts. You could sell it and get the DI upper and have a bunch of cash to buy ammo/accessories, or you could just run the piston upper. Enjoy! |

Sorry my post was a bit confusing.
It is a DI gun, but the upper receiver has the little bolt that the P guns have. |

In fact here you can see it on my LE6945. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8258/8667593424_2f3f37452e_o.jpg One upper design to rule them all. Thanks. I figure as much, just wanted to make sure I did not get something weird. The little bolt is on the upper receiver on the bump where the cam pin fits. If you look at Predators picture is right under the front Larue quick disconnect lever. |

The LE6944 I ordered last November (#104XXX) doesn't have the small bolt in the upper receiver. One upper design to rule them all.

All,
I apologize for asking this question, but I have read too many conflicting descriptions. Is the barrel profile on the 6940 and the 6940P the same as the 6920 SOCOM or the standard 6920? Thanks. |

[#20]
I just checked a friends 6940P yesterday, and it has a SOCOOM profile (heavy under hand guards). All of my 6940's (and every one I have ever seen) have the Govt profile barrels.
I have heard that SOME 6940P's came with Govt profile barrels, but I have not confirmed that. |

Theoretically, If I were to take the barrel off of my 6940, and replace it with the mk18cqb barrel, would the two different types of gas blocks/
Gas holes be in the same location so I could use the 6940 folding front sight post/gas block? MY MAIN GOAL Is TO HAVE A 6940 mono with a 10.3 barrel and suppressor to slap onto my LE 901 lower, while having my 16".308 as my med range upper. Don't worry, this is just a question prior to starting all the necessary paper work to create a legal Sbr so I know it is possible to do. |

View Quote As with all AR15 FSB/barrel questions of this nature the answer to that question is your taper pin holes will not line up. Also, the 6940 uses a different barrel extension than what is standard. |

[#30]
The barrel, barrel nut, barrel extention, and gas tube are all proprietary on the 6940(and 901) family of rifles.
You are better off buying a 6945 upper. I believe they are 10.5". |

What would be involved in cutting a 16" 6940 barrel down to 11.5" or even 10.5"? Gas port resizing?

Is the upper receiver (a stripped one) on a 6940 different than the 6940P upper? Meaning could I take the a 6940 upper and install the piston system (barrel/bcg/piston) in the DI upper, assuming I had the correct Colt parts. Just a theoretical here
|
