This post is not meant is a complaint, so just take it at face value - a question.
Do you routinely replace defective new optics with used optics?
I purchased a new Vortex Venom recently and upon zeroing, noted that the elevation screw did not work properly. I sent it in and the issue was verified by the techs, who stated on the attached invoice "Replacing unit with same model, ser# xxxxxx". The model I received was clearly used. It had a sticky substance all over it, the lens was smudged, and the paint on the mounting screw holes was worn in a manner that clearly indicated it had been mounted before. Pics below.
So I have a brand new optic that turns out to be defective out of the box, it goes back for service, and I get back an optic that seems to work fine but is used. I have no idea how old it is or how old the battery is, because the battery was installed when it arrived. Is this standard policy?
BTW, during this process I spoke with two different people at Vortex and both were
fantastic. The turnaround time on the service was also amazing. I dropped it off at the post office last Thursday and the replacement optic was on my doorstep today. I am blown away by that turnaround time.
Less so by the used optic as a replacement for defective new. And I am surprised because I have always heard great things about Vortex service.
Thanks.
