So, I know this is a gun board and we only care about optics if they mount on a firearm, but bear with me here.
I just wanted to post about this very nice product from Vortex because I discovered it by accident and thought other Vortex fans might be interested. While looking for a compact optic I could take on an upcoming trip to compliment my binoculars I stumbled across the Vortex Solo line of monoculars. Since I use several of their other products I thought I'd give one of these a try. I went with the 10x version because I anticipate some long range viewing in Colorado, but they also offer an 8x version.
These appear to be very high quality with a rubberized armor coating and lanyard loop. Light gathering is quite good for such a small objective lens and the glass is as clear as you would expect from Vortex. It also carries the standard VIP warranty. Mine came with a different soft case than I had seen pictured, which doesn't have the belt loop, but it looks more appropriate for wear around the neck with the included lanyard.
My only minor complaint is that the focus ring is quite stiff, which means you'll probably need both hands to adjust it, but this will also prevent accidental movement during use. Overall, I'm very pleased with this product and looking forward to using it on our vacation.
